Advertisements on my blog

Can you please advise if it is possible to control the ads that appear on our blog? We appreciate that ads wil appear however we use the site for school website and some of the sites that are linked with the ads are inappropriate. Is there anyway we can arrange for more school appropriate ads to appear?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This sounds like a request that belongs to the Ideas section, where people make suggestions, feature improvements etc…

Restricting the type of ads being displayed according to age would indeed be a good idea.

I’ve tagged this message for a moderator to look into, and hopefully move the discussion in the Ideas section.

The answer is not unless you purchase a bundle of upgrades (Premium or Business) that includes the No Ads upgrade. See here for details of all 3 plans http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/ offered by WordPress.com.

Currently it is not possible to control the ad content other than by removing the ads completely by buying the No Ads Upgrade – if you have an older blog you should be able to buy the upgrade for $ 30.- / year – if you have a new blog the No Ads only comes as part of a $ 99.- / year Up-Sell bundle (sort of like the cram down cable company pricing)

The ads should all be “family friendly” – you can take a screen shot of ads you don’t think meet that description and file a complaint here in the forum for the staff

@timethief, it sounds like the user actually does not mind ads appearing, as long as they are “family friendly“.

I think that’s a valid suggestion to raise to the staff’s attention (ie, move the discussion to Ideas :) ).

What I posted was factual and what auxclass posted was factual.

Not at all – some people don’t want any ads on their sites at all, My site and @TT’s are no ads, many government agencies have sites here and they also have the No Ads Upgrade

Also people have different ideas of what “family friendly” is – I have a couple of other sites here and I let WordPress.COM put ads on them, same for some friends that have sites here

What is family friendly advertisingis subjective and what is culturally acceptable varies from country to country. That is why I did not get into a debate and moved on to the next thread.

Even if you are in the WordAds program, you don’t get contextual advertising. Apparently the advertisers just make their choice based on traffic; i don’t know why any Celebrity site would want to pay to be on my cyberwar site, but they do.
