Advertisements on my WordPress without my permission

  I received a notice from a blog follower that my blog now has advertisements on the bottom of my posts. I did not authorize any advertisements and I most certainly am not being paid to have companies advertise on my blog. Why is this happening and how can I make it stop?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Sorry but you agreed to the ads when you signed up – how do you think you are getting a free blog – the ads are how WordPress.COM pays some of the bills.

  The bottom line for those who do not wish to have any advertising appear on their free hosted WordPress.com blogs is they must purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

  I think my issue is more why they didn’t put ads on my blog before and all of a sudden, they are? What changed and why wasn’t I notified if they were going to change something?

  How do you know they weren’t previously displayed?
  They do not display to us when we are logged in.
  They do not display when we use browsers with Ad blocking.
  They have been displaying on our blogs “occasionally” since 2006.
  You became a member here on September 24, 2009 (1 year)
  You marked the I read the ToS checkbox required to get a free blog here at that time.
  There is no requirement for notification.

  If I decide to upgrade to a no-ad blog for $29.95 for one year, at the end of the year can I decide that I no longer want to pay for the upgrade and just go back to my current status of ads at the bottom of my blog?

  @reynoldssusanfrances – yes – all upgrades are for one year and you can opt not to renew – one note of caution – if you decide you don’t want to renew make sure you have the Auto Renew turned off to help avoid confusion. Some people don’t want to renew an upgrade but forget to turn off the Auto Renew and show up in the Forum complaining about “unauthorized charges”
