Advertising?

Am I allowed to put a link on my site as part of an affiliate program? Does that breach any rules?

Advertising is, except for a couple very narrow exceptions, not allowed on wordpress.COM. For the exceptions, see the last sentence under “Affiliate marketing blogs” in the bottom set of bullet points in the “types of blogs link below.

I still have one question about it. I am not in any form someone who is trying to drive traffic to affiliate sites. I just had someone approach me saying that if i put their link on my site then they will give me a commission on any sale that comes from my site. I am not trying to make big bucks or anything like that. I am just enjoying blogging. Is it okay to put this link up? Just as I would put another blogs link up?

Will there be any changes on those rules in the foreseeable future, or are those rules set in stone?

I’ve been here for just short of three years and that whole time they have been saying that they might, maybe, possibly, at some undetermined point in the future – or not – allow some form of advertising, but I suspect it will be limited to a choice or two, and will likely be an upgrade that will cost somewhere around $30 per year (the current price of the “no-ads” upgrade) or possibly more. And of course I suspect it will come with a disclaimer that if the cost of the upgrade is more than you make per year on the advertising, you are out of luck.
