Advertising

OK… just curious if anyone has any insight on this one. Again – a quick background – I am new to wordpress, not new to Internet business/marketing.

I PLANNED to offer display ads on my blog, but then read the rules for WP. The VIP service is WELL beyond my means right now. Was thinking about changing to a paid host such as GoDaddy (already a customer there) but then I noticed the bottom of one of the support pages here said that I would be able to have advertisers in the future.

Now the question: Is there a change planned in the rules/hosting services on WP.com that will allow me to run ads in the near future?

I planned to run free of ads until February anyways, if there will be changes I can adjust because I just like the simplicity of WP.com so I will stay here if I can.

    Thanks for the insight

That message has been out there for years…I wouldn’t count on it to change anytime soon, and certainly not by February.

If running ads really matters to you I suggest to switch to self-hosted wordpress.ORG already now.

As far as ads in the future goes, it has said that for the nearly 3 years I’ve been here, and I suspect that if there is some program instituted, WordPress will give just one choice such as adsense or one of the other mega ad networks. In other words, people aren’t going to be able to choose – or if we are given choices they will be very limited.

Given the following article at Plagiarism Today, and Matt’s comments in that article, I would not hold my breath.

Why WordPress.com is Virtually Spam Free

Been there for YEARS?!?!?!? Guess I won’t spazz about missing my self imposed weekly deadlines. ;)

I was thinking about downloading wordpress.org and playing with it offline. I’m still in the learning phase of blogging and don’t really know/want to code so I’m hoping it has a totally idiot proof visual layout system.

    Thanks again

If you intend to self host a wordpress.ORG install on your own domain then do understand that you will be solely responsible for wordpress version updates, d plugin updates, troubleshooting and fixing problems, as well as management of the whole site on your own. If you not are capable of producing high quality unique content on a regular basis then do NOT expect to make significant income from advertising. Most casual bloggers only make enough to cover domain renewal and web hosting costs.

    Thanks, Timethief

I’m not very worried about supplying content… I’ve spent most of the last two weeks breaking up material I already have into ‘blog friendly’ posts. If I wanted to get cute, which I may, I think I could program the auto-post system to post three times a week for the next three months with what I have in reserve. :)

As far as advertising goes, I’ve been into ‘niche marketing’ for over 20 years… I’ve spent the last month creating a buzz in two of my niche’s… I’m not too worried about the $$$ amount… :)

    Thanks for the input

One thing you should know about the autopost system: you’ll need to go back and edit your posts, as for some reason they don’t go up in the tag system until you do. They may or may not go out in your RSS feed as well. It’s a known bug.
