Advertising on my wordpresss site

  I’m somewhat confused on whether I can place advertising on my site. I have a free account. In the User Guidelines it states ‘Advertising isn’t permitted unless you use WordAds or have a WordPress.com VIP or Enterprise site.’ and yet in the Advertising section of Support is says ‘Most affiliate links and sponsored posts from reputable merchants are allowed on WordPress.com, as long as your blog’s primary purpose is to create original content, and not merely to send traffic to these sites.’

  My blog’s main purpose is to create and share original content, but I have been approached by some companies who would like to place an ad on my site. The ads would be simply an image of their company logo (or something similar) that when clicked on takes the reader to that company’s website. I think that would be allowed on my site here on wordpress…can someone please confirm that for me?

  Good Morning – If you have upgrades on your account you can get in touch with staff privately at http://wordpress.com/help/contact/

  If not, we can ask staff for help in clarifying your question about advertising. All you need to do is type ‘modlook’ into the tags bar on the right side of your screen then select ‘add’. This will notify staff that you are in need of their help and they will contact you here. It may take a day or two to hear back.

  Thanks Liz…I’m using a free version with no upgrades at this time. I’m willing to consider an upgrade if that makes things easier for placing ads on my site. I’ll tag this with modlook per your instructions and wait for additional assistance.

  That should be okay. We used to have stricter agreements, but right now if you’ll follow the guidelines here you’ll be alright:
