Advertising Options on WordPress.com

I currently use WordPress.com to host a blog. Now I am receiving inquiries from individuals about advertising on my page. I submitted an application to WordAds in January and since I have not received any kind of feedback on the application for several months, I do not trust that source for advertising. The only other viable option seems to become self-hosted or going with WordPress.org. Are there any other valid options available for advertising on WordPress.com?

Regarding your WordAds application, our advertising partners do have a minimum traffic threshold. Looking at your page views, it’s not possible to earn meaningful earnings given your traffic levels. A site generally needs thousands of page views each month to earn meaningful earnings. As your traffic grows we will continue to apply to get ads activated.

I want to strongly emphasize sharing your blog with your friends and family. If they like it, they’ll share it with their friends, and so on.

If you require other advertising, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. This is very helpful. Since my blog is more of a balance to my physics career than an intended revenue stream, being a clearinghouse for advertisements still may not be worthwhile yet.
The “Getting More Views and Traffic” link will be even more helpful with me coming up with more ideas for pulling in viewers. I appreciate it.
