Adverts Help

  Hi

  I know wordpress.com is only free because of advertising – I have no problems with static adverts appearing underneath all my blog posts.

  However, recently large ads have appeared which take up the entire right side of the page. They flash and scroll. With the usual small ads underneath my blog posts most of the page is taken up with ads (I’ve done a screenshot of the end of a blog post but don’t know how to add to this post).

  My blog is for people with neuroloical diseases, many of whom have problems with flashing lights and moving images. Some have said they can’t visit my site if these large, flashing/scrolling/changing adverts are there :-(

  I know I can pay to have a site with no ads, but I’m unwell and unable to work so have very little money. Is there any way of removing the moving ads on the right-hand side of my site that are causing problems for my visitors?

  I use Firefox as a browser and run Windows 10.

  I see nothing like what you’re describing on your site. I only see a regular ad block at the bottom of the sidebar that’s the same size of the ad blocks that appear at the bottom of a single post. Please upload your screen shot to My Site ->Media ->Add, and I’ll be able to see it there.

  As to your question, it is not possible to remove only specific ads on your site, no.

  But there is also no guarantee any of your visitors are seeing those ads. What ads appear on your site depend on factors like the browser history and location of a specific visitor to your site, so no two people visiting your site will see the same ads.

  Thanks for replying. I’ve uploaded the screenshot to my media library. It’s the tall, red iberia advert on the right that’s causing my visitors problems.

  Hi there,

  As @kokkieh explained to you, no two people visiting your site will see the same ads. So while you’re seeing an Iberia ad, I’m seeing a FabFitFun one. Here’s a screenshot of it:

  Thanks for that. I still think there should be a way of limiting flashing or scrollling adverts as they can affect people with epilepsy, brain injuries or neuroloical diseases. I have no issues with static adverts.

  There’s nothing we can do on the type of ads displayed on free sites. If you want to completely eliminate ads on your site you can upgrade to one of our plans. You can read more on that here:
