Please could someone give me advice on how to improve my chances of getting on the recommended blogs list under ‘travel’. I always use the ‘travel’ tag when posting and limit each post to 3-4 tags. Thanks!

Hello there,
All reasons for non-appearance of posts on WordPress.COM Topics (categories and tags) pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts

Are you looking for feedback on your blog? This could range from the design of the site to the actual content of a post. You can get feedback from our Community Pool:

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/blogging-university/It takes time and effort to build a collection of unique content, to promote it, and to attract followers. It takes weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL.

Increasing traffic to a blog is hard work. If you want your blog to rank well in search engine results then that begins with creating and publishing original content posts (not pages) ie. unique content that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet.

If you are using a WordPress.com theme good SEO is a given. However, going beyond the theme what the blogger has done within that structure is worth evaluating. Whether you write informative, persuasive or controversial content learning how search engines work, and how to apply basic SEO to you content will benefit your blog as it will increase traffic from targeted readers. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/10/21/two-seo-videos-for-bloggers/

Thanks very much for all the advice and tips I really appreciate it. I’ll get reading!
The main query I have though is regarding the Recommended Blogs tab on the left-hand side of the WordPress reader (there are about 25 listed under Travel)
Is this list chosen by WordPress staff or linked directly to the ‘Freshly Pressed’ feature?
Thanks again for your time.

That list is generated by Staff and we have no input into the selection of blogs that are recommended there.

Figure there are perhaps ten million blogs here that use the Travel tag (that’s an educated guess). To get in the recommended list, attract the attention of staff, feature content those individual editors like, and wait. Eventually you might beat out the other ten million for a place on the list.
