Advice on how avoid Google blacklisting (if such a thing exists)
-
Hi, last winter I took a ten-year-old, dormant WP blog and filled it up with posts. Now one may very rightly have the opinion that it’s a very lame blog, as it was sort of a quick snowy-weekend experiment. But I was quite surprised that the blog gets basically no Google traffic (much, much less than an even-lamer, even-more-dormant BlogSpot blog that I have).
So my question is if there were reasons Google might blacklist a blog, like having waaay too many links, or if a 10 yo blog were dormant, it’s never getting back on the track, or maybe Google just doesn’t like WP? I have a new idea for a blog, but I’m wondering if I should just avoid links (which is actually sad if you want to educate), or make sure I start with a fresh URL? Want advice before I upgrade my plan versus trying this idea on IG, etc…
I don’t want to go the route of S.E.O.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello pterandon,
Google does do something similar to blacklisting when there is malware on the site (you should know if that is the case, they flag it pretty noticeable, and really only relevant in self-hosted). Some SEO may be helpful to your issue. If it was a self-hosted WordPress, then there are other factors, like a robots.txt.
Google wouldn’t blacklist you for having too many links though, it might hurt your ranking depending on how Google’s algorithm interpreted the links but going into that is exactly what SEO is. Having fresh content will probably improve Google rankings and traffic, but you do not get blacklisted if you do not do so.

I noticed that no one has mentioned that Google may not be sending any traffic your way due to the amount of years left unattended, and due to Google preferring newer updated websites/content it may have ALOT of competition. My suggestion to get more traffic to start with would be via social media, not only is this great for getting your website out there these days but also search engines LOVE social media! Then work your way up the ladder because domain age plays an important factor in SEO also which means you have the ability to rank FAST
