Advice on how to get a “featured blog” thing….
-
I would like to add something to my blog, that I could change on a daily or almost daily basis without too much trouble – a “featured blog”, not necessarily part of my blog roll, with a link to it and maybe a small explanation of why I like it.
Is there a way to do it in a more “stylish” way, rather than just a text widget?
thanks….
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Vigilance theme has an Alert Box and I use it for posting tips every 1 – 2 days. However, you are using Cutline so I can’t thin of a more stylish way than using a text widget at the top of your sidebar. You may want to use a colored background or an image in the text widget to draw attention.

Thanks…. that makes it harder for this net-challenged person to achieve, but I’ll try it
I had not noticed that different themes have so many different features – it would be nice if they could be “imported” at will, but maybe I’m dreaming too high

Hmmm well, each and every theme is designed by an independent web designer,. There is no consistency when it comes to features and there is no ability to “import” the features from one theme into another theme. That has it’s good points and bad ones as well. I would hate it if we all had to use the same theme and ended up with the Facebook appearance.
Regarding your featured blog idea:
Another alternative you could use is a “sticky” post. I do not recommend this because I’m well aware that search engine spiders seem to overlook new posts when they are used in some themes, and also because I believe forcing regular returning readers to have to scroll post it every time they visit the blog is a turn-off. Other folks do not share the same POV. You will find the instructions here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/ -
Oh, I agree with you on the diversity being a plus.
And also on the sticky post – I first considered doing it, but it is a turn-off having to scroll down, I think I would end up losing many new readers for that.
thanks for your help once more! :-)
