Advice on how to structure a WordPress site?

  Hi. I’m a newbie to the whole wordpress thing, but an experienced developer. I have a situation that I’m hoping someone can provide me guidance with.

  I’m creating a wordpress website for a friend of mine. she wants to have a blog, obviously, on this site. So imagine a static Home page and also a Blog page, which would be the post page. She would also like to have a page where she showcases Recommended Reading. Each book entry would have a title and a little blurb about it. Essentially, the Recommended Reading page would behave like a blog, with each blog entry representing an individual book.

  WordPress out of the box does not seem to support multiple post pages. Can I make it do this? Or is there another answer? Perhaps there is some way to still just have one post collection, and then have several pages that each display a filtered subset of the main list based on category?

  Making sense? can anybody help?
