Advice on importing a WordPress site

    I have the data files and database that used to belong to a WordPress based site that is no longer reachable. How do I import it?

    Hey there, will you be hosting it here with us?

    If so, I’d recommend getting a Business or eCommerce plan (needed for SFTP access) then contacting support for their recommendation on getting the files and data imported properly:

    Thank you for the prompt reply. It is really appreciated.

    Yes, I will be hosting with WordPress.com. The site was hosted on a site that is shutting down and I chose not to go with the recommended site because of this shutting down without notice experience. It is too early to buy a Business or eCommerce website as the site is still a little experimental. I was hoping to get the website up, test it and start developing it to the point where I was happy with what I saw. In addition, I am very new at this so it would also be a learning experience as I built it up.

    If I read your note correctly, it seems like I have no choice but to start from scratch. Is this correct?

    Hi, If you have a backup of your site’s database, you could import it here on WordPress.com after upgrading to our Business or eCommerce plan. Those are the only two plans that allow such actions.

    If you want to start with a lower plan, you’ll have to build your site from scratch.
