Advice on ranking in Google

I can’t understand why our website does not appear in Google searches for our two key phrases, “Animal Research” and “Animal Testing” (Our FAQs page appears on P7 for animal research). Yet some much smaller websites appear to rank above us.
We’re a reasonably well trafficked website (~50K views/month;l Alexa rank ~200,000 in the US). The other stats also suggest Google should “like” the page:
Google PageRank = 7/10
Domain Authority = 48/100
Page Authority = 56/100
Domain Age = 7+ years
661 referring domains, 98 .edu backlinks and 23,000+ external backlinks. We do rank in the Google images (first page). But our homepage doesn’t seem to rank on Google.

Hi,
There are factors that could influence ranking in google. A couple of them are:
– That you don’t have duplicated content (Google detects that)
– The name and titles of your site and posts are not well related with your content, etc.
You can find more information about SEO here: -
Thanks.
We don’t really have any duplicated content (and we have a lot of content, around 1000 pages). Our titles are always relevant to the post at hand.

SEO and Your Blog

Your home page URL derives a rank based on how many other authoritative sites in your own niche link to it. Your posts that other bloggers with authority in the same niche choose to backlink to contribute to the ranking of the site.
Page Rank calculation is Google’s way of deciding relative importance of a webpage. PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page’s importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page’s PageRank is calculated. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page’s ranking in the search results. It isn’t the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.

I included our PageRank figures – which are very good. We have links from many educational institutions.
I don’t understand why we’re not ranking for keywords.
