Advice on themes which will need minimum support over years (legacy concerns)
-
Aloha! I’ve tried a whole bunch of searches, and just can’t find what I’m looking for, so thought it was time to ask the experts. I am planning to use my site to create a simpler website that can exist in perpetuity—or as close as I can get to that. There are so many WordPress updates, plug-in updates, etc., etc., that it is just impossible to keep up with all that myself. I’d like advice on choosing one of your built-in blog themes which, despite coming updates, has a good chance to continuing to run normally for a good few years. Is that impossible? I’m sure there must be others concerned about their legacy on the web after they’re gone. (I’m only 70, but a third of my highschool class have already passed on.) Thank you for any advice you can give.

Hi! Just to check, was this in relation to the free site you have here on WordPress.com? (it has this address: http://doughowellmusic.wordpress.com/ )
If this was in regards to a different site, feel free to share the URL; please bear in mind that we are able to help with sites that are hosted here with us on WordPress.com, but for sites using the WordPress software from WordPress.org, there is a community forum at this address:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/In terms of theme choice, would perhaps Twenty Twenty-Three work? It’s the ‘default’ theme for next year and it’s more blog-oriented (although it has the same flexibility as other recent themes):

Yes, the future site will be doughowellmusic.wordpress.com, which is empty now. My current site is creativemeasures.com. It’s a wordpress/woocommerce site, and not all that complicated, but just trying to stay on top of keeping the theme and commerce updated is proving too much for me, and takes time away from creating content. I plan to remove the commerce stuff and just put links to the songs instead, since they’re readily available elsewhere. Thanks for your suggestion, and I’ll investigate TwentyTwentyThree. Hopefully there’ll be a way to make the theme auto-update as well as the wordpress software…
