Aesthetic help for wordpress beginner

  I’m trying to make some changes to my website before it officially goes live on Monday, but I’m having serious issues figuring out how to do what I’m trying to. Any help I can get with any of my problems would be greatly appreciate. My website can be found here:

  Here is what I am trying to do but can’t figure out:
  1. Disable comments on pages (But still have comments available for posts)
  2. Have pages that show the most recent posts in a category. For example the “podcasts” page should shall all the recent podcast posts, but the subpage “Jinxed Idols” should only show the recent posts in the subcategory “Jinxed Idols”.
  3. Have all entries on both the main page and the aforementioned pages only show an excerpt instead of the whole post, preferably with an image of either the writer or the podcast logo.
  4. Change the main page to be two columns, the recent articles feed on the left and podcasts feed on the right. I want to keep the sidebar as well.

  I understand there will definitely be plugins involved in this, and that’s fine. I may even need to change my wordpress theme, and while I will do that if I have to, I need to be able to keep that banner in full and want the nav bar under it like it is here. I also don’t want the theme to write out the site name above the banner which many themes seem to do without the option for them not to.

  As I said, any help I can get with these things is greatly appreciated!
