Affiliate Adverising in Free WordPress Version?

Is this possible with the free version , I.e. the Amazon Affiliate Program, or only using one of the WordPress premium versions?

Well the HTML code that Amazon provided me with iframes did not work on the free version of WordPress.

1. WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert text affiliate links within post and page content to most third-party affiliate programs, provided they are not the primary content of the site in question.
2. Image affiliate links in posts and pages and any banners, affiliate links in sidebar or footer widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.

OK, does that apply to all versions of WordPress including the paid versions? If so there is no point for me to upgrade. I already use text links and was trying the Affiliate image links but they didn’t work. Thanks for your help.
