Affiliate Link Banners

I just read something…I was looking for clues as to how I could get my Amazon 120X600 to show up in a widget text box…this is what I read:
    http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/
It didn’t help me with Amazon as much as it clued me in on the fact that the ads I have in another widget text box on my site may be verboten. If someone clicks and buys I am paid a commission however I am not promoting the merchandise. That’s not the focal point of this particular site. Please do me the favor of looking at http://magicbody.wordpress.com and tell me if you see anything that is clearly not allowed so that I can rectify the situation. Thanks.

the word from the terms of service (bottom left of this page) is 1 discreet affiliate link in the sidebar.

Thank you. The text widget of banners has been retired. Thanks for your input.

You know, when I signed up for a site, maybe a week ago I actually read the document. First time I think I’d actually read one of those “I accept” documents. When I saw so many monetized sites ( banners, text ads, and contextual links) I thought, oh, I guess this is okay to do. So I added the widget of color…kinda reminded me of nautical flags, a hodgepodge strip of colors…Anyway it’s straightened out.

From the amount of Amazon and text ads I’ve seen I’m going to make the assumption that all of that is accepted as “one discreet” affiliate link. For now, I’m just building the site fundamentals. If I want to monetize, in anyway, I’ll make sure that the governing team agrees that the results are not contentious. Thanks again for your response because I have been getting many mixed signals.

No, that assumption is incorrect. One affiliate link as TEXT is okay. You may also have a Paypal button. Monetization beyond that, including Amazon, is not allowed and could subject your blog to suspension or deletion. Seriously, do not test this; blogs are nuked every day for this. You do always have the option of downloading WordPress software from WordPress.org and hosting it yourself; I’m starting a new, advertising-supported blog and that is exactly what I’m going to do. I keep my personal blog here.

Strong suggestion – Ditch the Youtube page. All those videos together on one page crash most browsers.

If you like the WordPress Multiuser format, there are other WPMu installs out there. You can find a partial list here. Some of them do allow adverts under certain conditions and this does allow you not to deal with the software.
