I need help with attaching Amazon affiliate links to text in posts. My process: highlight the text for link attachment; get link, highlight and copy html from amazon affiliate site; click link icon for post text; paste amazon link html and click update. I have this set to open in a new window, but when I go back to test, it opens to a blank page.

Affiliate marketing blogs are not allowed. The main purpose of the blog cannot be driving traffic to other sites.
WordPress.com now allows us to insert our own text affiliate links within post and page content, as long as they are within the context of the post or page. These can link to Amazon or other third-party affiliate programs.
Image affiliate links, and any affiliate links in widget areas are still considered to be ads and are not allowed on WordPress.com. If you want to run ads on your blogs, see the WordAds program: http://wordads.co
Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

Thanks, timethief! Good info. So, if I understand correctly, I may still be able to make links to text within a post, but they have to be text only?
-
Yes but do note that you cannot start putting a link in every post. Occasional text links are okay but the blog cannot be used to drive traffic to other sites.

Thanks again. I subscribed to your email tips. If you take suggestions, I’d love to hear about effective ways to monetize a blog since there are obviously some restrictions by wordpress. Looking forward to learning from your tips!

There is no upgrade your can purchase here that allows you to initiate advertising contracts yourself on your free hosted WordPress.com blog.
You cannot post any advertising on your blog here at WordPress.com. There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. You apply to WordAds by asking for an invitation. You wait a long time.
WordAds Staff check out your blog and if and only if it qualifies they contact you and implement ads on your blog.

http://wordads.co/signup/Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.
