Affiliate links allowed or not?`

I’m migrating my site Recovering Shopaholic from self-hosted WordPress to WordPress.com. The site has affiliate links (mostly for Amazon.com, but also for other sites) on many of the pages. Is this okay with WordPress.com or do I need to remove these links? I was planning to go with the Personal plan for this site, but need to know what’s okay and what’s not.

Also, I would like to add a donate link to the site (Paypal) if possible. Finally, I have two e-books that I link to on the site (I’m selling them via Amazon, not directly through my site). I am the author of these books but I’m currently using my Amazon affiliate information on them as well as linking to them.

I know the rules for WordPress.com have evolved over the years, so I would like some clarification before I finish my site migrations.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Hi there,

We allow affiliate links as long as they’re relevant to the content on your site and the main purpose of your site is not just to drive traffic to affiliate sites. Using your WordPress.com site as an Amazon storefront is not allowed, for example. You can read our full policy here:

    Monetize Your Site

Using affiliate links to your own books on Amazon is perfectly okay.

We also have no problem with you adding a Donate button to your site.

    Kkokkieh,

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m pleased that I will be able to retain the affiliate links on my site. My site is definitely not a storefront, but I do have some affiliate links on certain pages and I sell my books there. And since adding a donate button is okay, I plan to do that as well.

    I appreciate your help!

    Debbie
