Affiliate with MLB.com Store

  I have a baseball blog. If I affiliate with the MLB.com Store, it says their program “automatically creates the HTML for you to cut and paste into your web pages.” Will I be able to do that with a WordPress.com blog, or would I need to have a hosted blog for that to work?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Please beware that you are not allowed to sell anything from your WordPress.com blog that you did not personally create or market any service that you do not personally provide.

  That’s no longer true, tt. You are allowed to do affiliate marketing now.

  We cannot tell whether the MLB code will work or not until we see it. Copy and paste it here between backticks so we can look at it. If it contains the word iframe it will not work. If it contains javascript it will not work. If it contains flash, it can probably be adapted to work. If it is plain HTML it will work fine.

  It’s my understanding from Staff (and that’s where the copy and paste I use is from) that image widgets for affiliate codes are not allowed, and that we can only post affiliate text links for products personally made by the blogger.

  Amazon.com and other select affiliate links are now permitted on free hosted WordPress.com blogs, as long as they are not the primary content of the site in question.

  WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert their own text affiliate links within post and page content only to their own products in Amazon or other third-party affiliate programs.

  Image affiliate links in posts and pages and any affiliate links in widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.

  Where did you see that? By definition an affiliate link is a link to a company NOT your own, so why would anyone affiliate link to their own product and get 4% when they could sell it directly and get 100%?

  I can’t locate the original email and think I may just copied and pasted and trashed it. Thanks for tagging this thread. Clarification from Staff is a good idea because I don’t want to be providing wrong answers.

  Affiliate links within WordPress.com blogs are now allowed. Third-party anner ads and other visual ads not placed by WordPress.com or part of MLB themes are still disallowed.
