  Hi;
  The following is part of an email I recently received:

  ….. Our company is not looking for large quantity of
  participants. We are only contacting quality web sites such as yours to
  be one of our affiliates. Our program is brand new, and therefore is not
  saturated unlike other affiliate programs.
  …All you have to do is place our link(s) or one of our banners on your
  web site. This program is absolutely FREE to join.

  Is this sort of thing permitted on WordPress.com?

  you can’t earn money from your wp.com blog as far as i know.

  No, and additionally it’s probably lying to you. These kinds of things get sent out by robots indiscriminately. I have seen blogs deleted for such things.

  I have actually exchanged several emails with the person who originally contacted me. Not a robot. My wife and I have purchased product from this company and were very pleased.

  The answer is almost certainly no – but send in a support when it opens.

  well, what was said in 2006 may not be the case anymore in 2008 sometimes. =) while i think the faq should be a good guideline, it’s best if you get it straight from the horse’s mouth to avoid any confusion. http://wordpress.com/contact-support/
  please contact the wordpress staff through that link. take note that support is only open on weekdays on certain hours.
