Affiliates program with simple wordpress site

I just signed up for an Affiliate program that I would like for my penguinheroe.wordpress.com site. My question is, will my site need to be penguinheroe.com in order for me to add ads on my blog promoting the affiliates and/or can I do that now with my current theme? Is this possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

timethief I just found one of your answers on a post similar to mine saying:
“If you wish to have a monetized blog you must hire a web host and get a free download of wordpress.ORG sogtware and self host it. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1”

Correct – but most people don’t make hosting costs with ads. You need something like over 1000 page views a day to break even from what i have seen
