Affinity Theme – Posts Not Showing on Panel / Front Page
-
Hello, Happiness Engineers. I’m sorry to bother you again. I have read the Affinity documentation and scoured the forums and concluded I’m confused or missing something.
Using the Affinity theme at hagsandshrews.com, I’ve set all new posts/blog articles to go to the “Posts” page. When I click on “Posts,” sure enough, I do see my trial blog post.
Problem: I’ve set the Panel 1 content as “Posts” and set a featured image for “Posts.” I assumed that whatever blog post I scheduled or stickied would then show up on my Front Page. Unfortunately, it does not. When I remove the Panel 1 Posts Featured Image, the entire Posts section disappears.
(1) I want the featured image from my latest post or posts to appear in a slider on my static Front Page. Is this possible with Affinity? If so, how do I achieve that? I have set posts to go to the Posts Page in Settings > Reading and in the theme customization options. What did I miss?
(2) Affinity has a guest book template option, but I don’t see it showing up on the Premium plan template. Where is that?
Thanks in advance for your help. You’d think after 10 years of WP blogging at thirdeve.com, I’d know my way around WP… but I’m still learning.

Panels are designed to work with static pages only, not the blog.

You could try using the Display Posts shortcode, but the posts won’t appear in a slider. Something like this would display the most recent post with its featured image:
[display-posts posts_per_page="1" image_size="thumbnail"](2) Affinity has a guest book template option, but I don’t see it showing up on the Premium plan template. Where is that?
Choose the “Guestbook” template on the page you create. You’ll find the template options in the Page Attributes box when you’re editing the page.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for your response! I looked at the shortcode and added it to the post in question; but it doesn’t appear in the slider (as you said it would not). All it does is add a thumbnail to the bottom of the post itself.
Is there any way to get my latest post to appear on the Front Page in a slider in Affinity theme? If not, what theme will offer me more flexibility. I need readers to be able to find the latest post right on the first page–without sacrificing the full-width, one-page simplicity and beauty of a theme like Affinity.
Thanks much!
Anne

One route you could try is the slideshow shortcode. You can learn how to set up a gallery here; you’d choose the slideshow option:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/
The slideshow doesn’t automatically pull in a recent post, you would need to edit it manually to change which posts are displayed.
If you want a theme that has a built-in slider, these are the themes that have one:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/post-slider
Build-in theme sliders usually work by assigning posts to appear in the slider, so you’d also need to update the slider with your latest posts.

You might want to check out Luxury:
https://luxurythemedemo.wordpress.com/
It has that full-width, single-page feel, with a post slider below the first panel.
It’s a premium theme, included in your Premium plan.
