Can anyone help me? I had a large blog hosted on here from my 2 1/2 year trip around the world. It is called ‘a fistful of gears’. I don’t believe I’ve logged on to my blog for a while, and today I have logged on and discover that it no longer appears to exist?
I can view a blog that I was following – which was my Nephew’s trip (Luke and Jen’s adventure), but nothing under the tab ‘My Site’ ??? I blogged near enough every day, and included many photos, so I do hope I haven’t lost all that work?
I can see

Hi there,
There is no site that is connected to the account that you are contacted us from. The site must be under a different account – do you happen to remember the site URL? I can look up the site and find out the account it is under.
Let me know – thanks!

I don’t think Darnell will be able to help you here at WordPress.com. It seems your site is hosted by 123-reg.co.uk and so uses WordPress.org software. I should try them. Have you let a renewal lapse as the site is no longer online? The site is archived in the Wayback Machine though.

Have you clicked on the link above?? It is a site dedicated to preserving the Interweb.
“The Wayback Machine is a digital archive of the World Wide Web and other information on the Internet created by the Internet Archive, a nonprofit organization, based in San Francisco, California, United States. The Internet Archive launched the Wayback Machine in October 2001. The service enables users to see archived versions of web pages across time.
Since 1996, they have been archiving cached pages of web sites onto their large cluster of Linux nodes. They revisit sites every few weeks or months and archive a new version if the content has changed.” -
@themagicrobot is correct – since the site isn’t hosted with WordPress.com, there isn’t much we can do since we do not have access to the backend of your account.
The best bet is to contact your host 123-reg.co.uk and see if they can assist you.
Thanks!

thanks to both of you – I’ve logged a ticket with 123-reg.
themagicrobot – I’ve clicked on the URL and, yes, that is definitely my archived blog! If 123 are unable to help me, how can I get my archived site back on to some new web hosting and make it a useful resource again for other cyclists?
Do you know anyone that could help me achieve this please? Thanks Dee

Hi there,
I’ve confirmed with UK2 Net who used to host my blog that it was viewable in April and is no longer there, despite the fact that I’ve paid for hosting!!!
So, it seems the only way forward is for me to try and get my website back from The Wayback Machine then? and host it here on WordPress.
Does anyone know anyone who I can pay to do this for me please?
Thanks
Dee

There is a way to do this for free but it’s for the very experienced:-
https://github.com/hartator/wayback-machine-downloader
Looking around the Interweb I see there is also a company advertising a service to recover data from the Wayback Machine cache into a file suitable for a WordPress.org site. They charge for this, cost unknown. I’ve no way of knowing how legitimate this company is though so I’d proceed with caution.
I would have thought that if you’re still paying UK2 Net they ought to be able to supply a backup xml file. With one of those you could import the content into WordPress.com.
PS: Note to everyone with a self-hosted site who may read this. It shows how important it is to keep backups of your data. And how great it is to be here at WordPress.com where they do all that tedious stuff for you.

thanks very much for replying to me with this information. I’ll hunt for someone technically experienced that can help me get my site back and then host it here!!! If anyone is reading this and feels they can help, then please email me:-
(email visible only to moderators and staff).According to UK2, it seems there was an error when I extended the hosting package. Somehow a new account was created that didn’t have the website associated with it. Then my website was deleted in April (as that package had expired!) and due to the amount of time the backup on their servers has now also gone. :(
To say I’m disappointed is an understatement!
