after clicking thumbnails, photos too large for column

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve encountered a new issue. For some reason, the photos I uploaded on my recent post appear too large to fit the column once the viewer has clicked the appropriate thumbnail. They appear full size and as intended once the viewer clicks a second time to bring the image up on its own page however. I resized the images prior to uploading as I always do but these particular ones are a higher resolution than I normally post (300dpi rather than 100dpi). Could that have anything to do with the issue?

    Thanks.

It is taking the image to the attachment page. When you insert an image you want to make sure that you click the “file URL” button before inserting the image.

Also, you need to read this about image DPI and the web: http://apptools.com/examples/dpi.php . It does absolutely no good to upload a 300DPI image to the web since browsers completely ignore the DPI codes in the image file.

DPI only comes into play when printing an image.

In short, all your images should be at a resolution of 72 and optimized for the web (otherwise you’re just wasting uploading space).

However, resolution has probably nothing to do with the issue. And the issue has nothing to do with your recent post either: if you click on any landscape-shaped thumbnail in any of your gallery posts, you’ll see you’ve got the same problem.

When you click on a gallery thumbnail, you get a so-called attachment page. Attachment pages are supposed to display a version of the image that will fit the main column (in the theme you’re using, 434px). For some reason, in your case they display the images in real size (so images wider than 434 are cut off). But I don’t know what the reason is. If thesacredpath doesn’t know either, report the issue to staff:

(@tsp: No “File URL” – it’s galleries, not individual images.)

This sounds like the result of some staff tinkering to me. Do as Panos suggests and contact support.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m inclined to believe the “staff tinkering” as thesacredpath mentions as this hasn’t been an issue with any of my other posts. Since my blog is primarily a photo themed one, I always check first to make sure that the images load properly prior to publishing. It wasn’t until a day later when someone notified me of the problem. Guess I’ll check with support staff.

    Thanks again.

Just had a check on the site. Everything seems to be working fine now without me actually doing anything. Evidently some tinkering going on.
