After importing all posts from my old wordpress installation all double line breaks have been replaced with single line breaks
this has severely disrupted the formatting of the text, after importing the text looks very squashed together as the paragraphs are no longer showing correctly.
does anyone know of a way to fix this issue?

Is the site you have the XML export file from still online?
if yes, what is the URL?
How large is the XML export file?
Did you remove advertising an un-approved comments before creating the XML export file?

yes the site i exported it from is still online
the site is at https://www.fbpurity.com/news/
the export file was 2400KBi dont know what you mean about removing advertising and unapproved comments, so that would be a no.
I didn’t receive any error messages that i can recall.
btw i forgot to mention both sites are running the latest WordPress (v4.9.6)

the site i am moving to is currently located at

please note i have resorted to manually copying and pasting some of the latest posts from the edit window of the old installation to the edit window of the new installation, to preserve the formatting. this is a very laborious and time consuming task, and will take ages to copy all posts in this manner. i have just done the latest 4 posts so far, would much rather a bug fix / workaround or automated solution if possible.
example post on the old site with correct formatting:
F.B. Purity v24.0.2 – Kills “Up Next”, saves video volume preference & various fixes
same post on new site after the import
