After importing xml file images are not showing.

My blog images are missing after exporting from wordpress.org and importing to wordpress.com. Some of them are unattached and some are totally missing. Exported using wordpress.org blog’s export function, and imported using wordpress.com import function. Blog was hosted on Bluehost before moving to wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

I checked your site’s dashboard out and I can see that you have 601 items (out of 782) that are unattached to any posts/pages. I’m going to have one of our developers take a look to see if there’s anything we can do on our end to fix that.

With items that are missing – do you have an example of something that *should* be there and isn’t? Also, is your old site still active on Bluehost’s servers? Once I have that information, I’ll be happy to take a closer look.

Let me know if you have any questions!

This post http://socktopus.co.uk/2011/02/05/short-rows-shadow-wraps/ should have a bunch of images, but they are all missing. I checked the unattached files and have attached the only two I could find for this post. The rest are missing.

The files are still on the blue host servers but my subscription is due to finish with them on the 23 July.

Ok, thank you for that information. We’ll have our developers take a look.

To be on the safe side, can you request a full site backup from BlueHost so you can ensure you have everything – including your media files – saved on your computer?

I’ll be back in touch once I hear back from our developers. Thanks for your patience while we sort this out.

I have a request from our developer. Can you contact Bluehost and find out what your IP address was for your site when it was on their servers? Our developer needs that information to try and pull those missing images into your new WordPress.com site.

Let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise I’ll wait to hear back from you.

    Thank you!

Does your developer think he can do this? If not I may just cancel my mapping package and go back to bluehost and self host. I need to decide in the next 2 days…

    It is 66.147.242.191

    Thank you for that!

I gave the developer the IP address and I asked him about your concerns. He said if he is unable to pull the images in through the IP address, as long as you have the contents of /wp-content/uploads folder saved locally on your computer, we will be able to use those files to reattach your images.

If you requested a full site backup from Bluehost, that folder will be in the backup files for your site. If you’re not sure, open the backup file and it will be in the /{your root domain}/wp-content/uploads directory.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll be back in touch once I have more information regarding the import. Thanks again for your help while we sort this out for you.

    I have an update!

Our developer was able to pull in all but one of the missing images off your old host and reattach them to your posts. For the example link you gave above, all the images are there now!
    http://socktopus.co.uk/2011/02/05/short-rows-shadow-wraps/

The second step of the process – taking the images that are currently unattached in your media library and reattaching them to the correct posts – will be processed sometime next week. We pushed the grabbing of your images off your Bluehost server to the top of the priority list because of the time-sensitive nature of getting the files. You can now let the hosting expire as we have all the files we need from the Bluehost server.

With the pull of files from Bluehost, there was only one image that seemed to be in a post, but no longer existed on your server. Here’s that image file URL:
    http://66.147.242.191/~knitlove/socktopus/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/IMG_0170-225×300.jpg

The file doesn’t exist, so clicking that link won’t take you anywhere, but it does indicate that the post was made sometime in July 2009. It looks like it’s the broken image in this post under the YouTube video:
    http://socktopus.co.uk/2009/07/18/snape-victorious/

The other broken image link is pointing to an image hosted on http://www.knitlove.co.uk/ that also doesn’t seem to exist anymore.

If you have that photo locally, you can upload and reattach it to that post to fix that last host-related image problem.

Once we complete processing the reattachment of the images in your media library, I will let you know in this thread.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi again!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I have some good news! Our developer was able to reattach all but 14 of your 600+ unattached images back to their original posts.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

    Happy Blogging! :)
