  I signed up for a free year and it is nearly up. What happens now? I have not had an email or anything regarding this and don’t want to lose my blog

  Are you sure https://curiouskids101366786483.wordpress.com/ isn’t an always free site? You can check by looking at “upgrades” in your left hand menu. You can use a free site here indefinitely or until the world ends or WordPress.com closes down or some other unforseen calamity. If you have some other site please share the full address.

  There isn’t a free year for WordPress.com sites as such but there is the option to register/connect/transfer a custom domain for free for the first year if you buy a plan. If you purchased a plan and received a free domain then yes after one year both plan and cost of the domain need to be paid for a site to continue. Hopefully in that case auto renew would be enabled.
