after my post has been published why, when I go to edit it do the spacings for the paragraphs collap
-
there are many times I have noticed this but I didn’t think that there might be a fault in the matala theme until someone on the january 2015 class group site suggested it because a grid she had done for me in html didn’t work on my site, but did on hers.
The problem also occurs when I insert photos – and if I try and add lines in the spacing of the paragraphs, nothing happens – I don’t know html, so this is always done in the visual mode.
this happens too often for it just to be something I have done wrong!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
When you add space out the paragraphs, are you hitting the Enter/Return button on your keyboard to add multiple blank lines? The WordPress editor removes extra blank lines between paragraphs, so if you add those to the visual editor they’ll be automatically removed.
Can you show me an example of a post or page where you couldn’t get the spacing you wanted? You can also show me the post or page where you tried to use the html grid that didn’t work on your site, if you still have it. That will help me understand what kind of spacing you’re trying to create — I’ll see if I can suggest a different way to create that spacing that will work for you. :)

hi Rachel
the most recent example, which made me put the question up is in several places on this post
http://julzcrafts.com/2015/03/19/the-new-bins-cost-475916-20/
the first block of text was originally in 3 paragraphs, and stayed there fine, then all of sudden, I added the last part of the post, and the spacing went, and I couldn’t get it back – so I gave up!
In fact the next block has gone too – just noticed, the Dear Sir bit of the email was obviously on a separate line, in fact nearly all the original spacing has been messed up, but the last email I copied from Mr Roberts is fine, because I haven’t needed to go back to edit the page!
the grid was only tested in draft, and I don’t know a way to show you, and I certainly don’t want to publish it!
Can you please also help me with something that happened when I put the latest post up – on the quilts – I was trying to send it to the contributor before I published it, so she could check it – I password protected it and sent it in draft – which didn’t work – so I thought, if I published it, it would only show the title of the blog, and added “coming soon” to the title.
However, the whole post got published, the protect bit seems only to be for the comments – so I took it off!
In fact I didn’t want to publish it just yet, but I had to so that the other person could see it – and have since edited it – but the spacing stayed fine this time!
do let me know if there is any way I can send you the grid, or you need any other info – thanks!

Thanks for those details!
the most recent example, which made me put the question up is in several places on this post
http://julzcrafts.com/2015/03/19/the-new-bins-cost-475916-20/Are you copying and pasting these emails (and the rest of the post content) from another program? It looks like there is some extra HTML code around that content, and it’s possible that’s getting mixed up as you edit the post further.
The best way to avoid that is to paste everything as plain text in the post editor. You can do that by clicking the “Paste as text” button before pasting it in: https://cloudup.com/cUAWaH0Y_ZW
That will remove the extra code that could be causing problems for the paragraph breaks. Then, if you need, you can add back in paragraph breaks directly in the editor. (You can do that for the blocks of text where the paragraph breaks were removed — if that doesn’t work please let me know!)
the grid was only tested in draft, and I don’t know a way to show you, and I certainly don’t want to publish it!
Can you let me know the title of that draft? I can take a look at the draft post in your site’s dashboard so you don’t have to publish it.
Can you please also help me with something that happened when I put the latest post up – on the quilts – I was trying to send it to the contributor before I published it, so she could check it
If you’d like to share unpublished posts, you can use the Writing Helper in the classic editor to do that. That allows you to send unpublished posts to people to read them and give you feedback before you publish them (so you don’t need to deal with password protecting or privately publishing those posts ahead of time).
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
-
I am copying the emails from ‘mail’ for mac
however, that has nothing to do with the first paragraph/block of text.
and it has happened to me more times than I can count on many posts.
I am always having to go back and try and get the original layout.
I also have another blog with the Wilson theme, and it has never happened there. It may be something to do with the fact that I have positioned images beside the text – and sometimes, I have to go and change the position of the image several times, to get it in the right place – there is a post under the royal mail category, of the postboxes (I hear you wonder what that is about – smile), where again, I just gave up, I tried it several times and couldn’t get it to go where I had originally placed it!
Same thing on the Show & Tell Archive page, which looks a mess because the images just won’t align to the text! The page needs tidying up anyway, but not if I just get the same problem.
Besides which, I think you have missed the point – the text behaves and works fine, with the right spacing – until I go back and edit something – this happens when I am writing the posts and keep refreshing the page, as well as when they have been published and I return to them for some reason.
The draft of the grid is called draft test columns…
I had deleted the problematic one, which seemed to re-size the same image in each block – thinks, I put up different images this time, so you can see that the only problem at the moment is that the text starts in the middle of the column, and so distorts the shape of the grid – I wanted to be able to describe the image in the text next to it.
re the Writing Helper – have never seen it! Each time I edit something a totally different editing page pops up – and I don’t seem to have any choice of what it is.
I put up a post on julzcards.wordpress.com yesterday, and was about to include a poll, and the page didn’t have the facility any more, nor a ‘contact me’ form!
This morning I noticed it was there for this blog on one of the editing pages – so how do I get to the editing page I want, and why is wordpress continually messing around with things it took me ages to learn in blogging101?
So yes, I do need a step by step explanation of how to send unpublished posts to people to check, as I will be doing more of the Show & Tells – hopefully!
Thanks for your help – perhaps you could investigate this changing layout thing a bit more ?? smile

Hi there!
Besides which, I think you have missed the point – the text behaves and works fine, with the right spacing – until I go back and edit something – this happens when I am writing the posts and keep refreshing the page, as well as when they have been published and I return to them for some reason.
This is definitely odd. I’ve mainly just seen this when there’s extra HTML or other code (usually added by a different program) that gets removed by the WordPress editor after saving it. But if you add the spacing into the editor directly (rather than pasting it in from somewhere else), it shouldn’t be removed after you save the post.
I’ve been testing this out but haven’t been able to reproduce the problem you’re describing with that. It looks like you’re using a somewhat older version of Safari (v. 6.2.4). If you aren’t able to update Safari on your computer, could you try using another browser to see if it’s also an issue there? (Sometimes older browsers can have unexpected behavior.) You can download the latest versions of popular browsers here: http://browsehappy.com/
If it also happens in another browser, that will give me more information to work with and more to investigate on my end, to see if I can figure out what’s going wrong in these posts.
The draft of the grid is called draft test columns…
Thanks! I see what you mean now. This has to do with how your site’s theme displays HTML tables (grids) like that. One way to change that behavior so the images and text are in line with each other is to customize your site with CSS.
You can use CSS like this to align the bottom of the caption and the bottom of the text:
td { vertical-align: bottom; }You can use CSS like this to align the middle of the picture/caption and the middle of the text:
td { vertical-align: middle; }Or you can use CSS like this to align the top of the picture and the top of the text:
td { vertical-align: top; }You can add the CSS you want in your site’s Customizer, by pasting it into the CSS section there.
re the Writing Helper – have never seen it! Each time I edit something a totally different editing page pops up – and I don’t seem to have any choice of what it is.
The Writing Helper is available in the classic editor. To get there, you can go to your WP Admin dashboard, either by going to the WP Admin link in the sidebar on your My Sites page or by going directly here:
http://julzcrafts.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
From there, you can go to Posts > All Posts to see your list of posts. If you hover on a post title there, you’ll see an Edit link pop up to open the post in your classic editor. (Other Edit links, like the Edit link you see when you’re looking at the post, will take you to the new editor. Certain features like the Writing Helper aren’t available there.)
You can also go to Posts > Add New to start a new post in the classic editor.
In the classic editor, under the editor box, you can click on Request Feedback in the Writing Helper to send the unpublished post to someone to look at. That Writing Helper area in the classic editor looks like this: https://cloudup.com/cVaPMETNMpp
-
am getting rather confused by all this – but just to let you know that having read your answer, I have downloaded Google Chrome, and the first thing that happened was that this thread was opened by it and I couldn’t comment on it because it didn’t recognise me – so have changed back to safari to ‘talk to you’.
However, when I have found my way around Chrome, I will test a post with it and see if I get the same problems – will come back to the rest of your answer tomorrow, as its past midnight, and I need some sleep!
-
well – didn’t manage to sleep, so I thought I’d test out a few things, but still on safari just now – and guess what!
I went to this blog post
to try and find the classic editor and put up a poll
AND THE SPACING HAS COLLAPSED ON THAT ONE TOO – AS SOON AS I CLICKED EDIT!
Its not funny, cos it makes me look stupid, as if I can’t write properly – and I’m really upset about it, especially the other one
http://julzcrafts.com/2015/03/19/the-new-bins-cost-475916-20/
which is being read by the top officials in my local council!
So not only can I not find the classic editor – I even tried clicking on the write a new post, and I got the same streamlined editing page, with no poll on it, and no writing helper – which by the way I did check out, and can now see how you can send drafts to specific people – but not if you aren’t given the writing editor on the page so that you can use it.
I checked the admin/dashboard, and there was no way I could see to access the classic editor – which seems to appear at random on julzcrafts – in fact you start with one editor and at some point it changes into another one!
AM NOW UTTERLY DISGUSTED WITH WORDPRESS FOR TRYING TO RESTRICT THE THINGS WE CAN DO ON OUR BLOGS – IT HAS BEEN DIMINISHING EVER SINCE THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY, WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT – AND WAS INCREDIBLY ANGRY BECAUSE THEY WERE CHANGING EVERYTHING WHILST THE LARGEST BLOGGING101 COURSE WAS GOING ON, AND THE SUPPORT PAGES WERE ALL OUT OF DATE.
Could you please pass these issues further up the chain – its about time someone answered me about this – I am spending more time trying how to work out what I can and can;t do – an reformatting posts than I am actually thinking about what I want to do with my blog!
-
I have just put up a new post on julzcrafts using chrome – you might cringe, but that was the only way to explain why I just ruined the chances of people seeing the quilts immediately.
It has taken me some time to work out how to use chrome, so I hope this is worth it.
This post will stay up until the problem is solved, or until I get some apologies from the WordPress executive, and an offer of compensation for all the trouble this is causing me!
-
Hi Julz.
I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve been having editing your posts. I can empathise with how frustrating it must be to lose the formatting of your writing, and we’ll work with you to figure out the root cause of what’s going on here.
Both Rachel and myself have tested a few different things but have so far been unable to replicate the issue. Could I ask you the following to help us with our testing:
* Have you been able to reproduce the issue in Chrome? We noticed that you were originally using an outdated version of Safari and wonder whether that could have been the cause.
* Did you originally write the posts in the classic editor and then edit them in the new editor?
* When adding text to your posts, were you copying and pasting from Mail each time or did the issue also come up when editing directly in WordPress.com?
* Did you switch between the Visual and Text tabs at the top of the editor at anytime when editing your posts?
I checked the admin/dashboard, and there was no way I could see to access the classic editor
You’re able to access the classic editor via the Posts section in the left-hand sidebar of WP Admin. The direct link to that section is here:
https://julzcrafts.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpYou shouldn’t be redirected away from the classic editor while accessing it directly there, but do let me know if you have any trouble. If you can let me know the extra details behind my above questions also, it will really help us in pinpointing the cause of the issue you’re facing.

hallo again siobhyb
somehow I always find the problems – smile
all i want to do is get on with things – i have spent most of the night trying to clear this, and still have orders to pack up for my customerssorry if I am frazzled, but I am still very annoyed by this
firstly – i have been chatting to Clare on the class of january 2015 site and she says she had the problem with the grid on her mac using Firefox, at the same time as I had problems with it using Safari – so she is convinced that there is a glitch on wordpress, and so am I.
They are still tinkering with the site, and at any time, something has been changed that inadvertently affects something else – that’s what happened before, but no one would admit to it.
To answer your questions – am copying your text here, so save having to keep scrolling
* Have you been able to reproduce the issue in Chrome? We noticed that you were originally using an outdated version of Safari and wonder whether that could have been the cause.
*****************
The outdated version of Safari works with paypal, ebay, etsy and any number of sites – I have had no problems with it – I purposely have not upgraded to Yosemite, which is the only way I could update now, because the browser is put together very differently and many people have had major problems with it, and you basically have to learn the whole thing from scratch (as I seem to be doing at your behest with Chrome – nice tho it is, I don’t think its the answer)No – so far there have been no changes to my layout, but, there were no changes to many of my layouts in safari – I thought it was because of the way I position the pictures, but the post on the spare that has also been affected does not have pictures in the body of the text – just above & below – so I can’t see why that happened. Its the first time on any post on there, its the Wilson theme – so not the same as matala on julzcrafts, so bang goes another theory!
have you read the blog – I explain everything I am doing there.
I have been back 2 or 3 times so far, and added bits, but its fine at the moment, but the ‘cost of bins’ site was up for a day before I added the extra information, and after that it is a total mess. And very embarrassing – I only noticed the changes in the middle portion of the page yesterday – for some reason I just saw the top compaction of my paragraphs and gave up – so that is exactly the time when the man I was “hounding” checked the site and probably thought – well – nothing to worry about here – she can’t even punctuate!
have put a comment up today, but too late really – the chief execs of other councils I contacted would also have seen it then.
*******************
* Did you originally write the posts in the classic editor and then edit them in the new editor?as I explained, the new posts seem to start off in classic – or did – they now start off in edit “lite” – have you seen it! Nothing on it – see my blog.
But once I had saved the work – I was writing straight to the blog, and clicked preview a couple of times, it changed to yet another version, and then another version – all in the same blog. There is only a way OUT of classic – inviting you to a ‘better way’ at the top of the page – not a way BACK to it – so I just carried on with whatever version decided to pop up!
******************
* When adding text to your posts, were you copying and pasting from Mail each time or did the issue also come up when editing directly in WordPress.com?answered above – only copied a couple of emails – the rest was filler/explanation, and this is not the only post it happened in.
*********
* Did you switch between the Visual and Text tabs at the top of the editor at anytime when editing your posts?also sure NO – cos I can’t do html – but may have once to see if I could see what was going on – having read someone’s stuff about deleting the extra lines – well I wasn’t getting extra lines – I was trying to put them in, but they didn’t show when published – that has happened to me too many times to mention – in nearly every post I have written!
************
You’re able to access the classic editor via the Posts section in the left-hand sidebar of WP Admin. The direct link to that section is here: https://julzcrafts.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpI clicked your link twice – it doesn’t direct you to any editing version, you either use the pencil at the top, or create a blog on the page – and that is normally the classic one – if I remember rightly – I wasn’t particularly taking notice, I was more involved in working out what I wanted to say,and how it should look. Actually come to think of it – this switching between versions is fairly recent – but was happening before too – its just more obvious now, because so many features have been removed.
No more large letters and small letters to choose from? I only upgraded so I could choose a larger text size – and to get easy access to help – I got it thro a box at the bottom of the page the first week, but that service has also been stopped!
**********
You shouldn’t be redirected away from the classic editor while accessing it directly there, but do let me know if you have any trouble. If you can let me know the extra details behind my above questions also, it will really help us in pinpointing the cause of the issue you’re facing.but I was – absolutely.
however, the last post I wrote in chrome STARTED WITH “LITE” and gives no possibility of changing – have a look for yourselves – there is no way to access classic, and if you are in the middle of a piece, you would probably lose it anyway, by trying to get it back by your method – going to the post page – cos you can’t jump out and back!
********
So – last time I had the problem with my comments going to spam, and someone took a long time getting me to explain the problem, reported back, and was never given any information about what it was – I was even directed to askimet – and they could find no faults – BUT IT HAPPENED – and the only reason I can think of is the one I gave right at the beginning of this long reply, which is wasting more of my time! That was said partly in joke mode – you both seem reasonable people – you know WordPress is in change mode to try and maximise revenue, and even people like me who have paid and getting dissed.
So take it to the top please – get me a business contract on both blogs without further payment, and then, hopefully, I will get the help I need, and be able to just write posts and excite people about either crafts or networking – HUH – you say, she has a cheek – no – this has been going on since January – I am not the only person who has noticed it, but for some reason, it seems to be messing me up more than most!

Hi Julz.
Thanks so much for taking the time to provide all of that extra information for us.
firstly – i have been chatting to Clare on the class of january 2015 site and she says she had the problem with the grid on her mac using Firefox, at the same time as I had problems with it using Safari
Did Clare provide HTML code for a table for you? If so, this code would have been added under the Text/HTML tab of your editor. Switching between the Visual and Text/HTML tabs can cause line breaks to go missing as described here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/advanced-html/#extra-line-breaksIf Clare noticed missing line breaks after adding her table, then switching between the two editor tabs is likely the cause. The support guide I linked to gives some advice for getting around this.
The outdated version of Safari works with paypal, ebay, etsy and any number of sites – I have had no problems with it
We would always recommend that you use the latest version of any browser not only for optimal viewing, but for security reasons also. Any outdated software on your computer is a point which hackers could exploit.
In addition, as you’ve experienced, we’re actively working on and rolling out new features here at WordPress.com. We strive to test new features on a wide variety of devices and browsers, however, testing with the latest versions takes most of our time and priority. With this in mind, I think you’ll have a better experience using WordPress.com with the latest version of Chrome.
No – so far there have been no changes to my layout, but, there were no changes to many of my layouts in safari
I tried several things to replicate the issue you initially described on the latest versions of Chrome and Safari: I used the exact text found in your original posts, switched between the classic and new editor, and copied and pasted from Mail. For each test, the posts retained their original formatting. It could be that I’m overlooking something or that the cause of this was the outdated version of Safari.
Please do let me know if you lose formatting of your posts while editing them in Chrome so that we can look into this again. While doing so, keep in mind that changes can be lost when switching between the Visual and HTML/Text tabs. You’ll need to save your changes before switching between tabs.
I clicked your link twice – it doesn’t direct you to any editing version, you either use the pencil at the top, or create a blog on the page
If you hover over your existing posts on the following page, then you’ll see a link to ‘Edit’ which will keep you in the classic editor:
https://julzcrafts.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpYou can edit and make changes to any of your existing posts in the classic editor from there.
While on that page, you can click the ‘Add New’ link that appears next to the ‘Posts’ title. This will direct you to the following link for creating a new post in the classic editor:
https://julzcrafts.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.phpI want to reassure you that the classic editor isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and you’ll be able to access it in WP Admin through the two links that I described above.
The pencil icon found in the black admin bar at the very top of the page as well as the in-page edit links on your site will direct to the new editor.
Our hope is to make the new editor so good that you won’t want to use the old one. :) To do this, we really are listening to all feedback and appreciate the time you take to report back to us your experience with it.
to get easy access to help – I got it thro a box at the bottom of the page the first week, but that service has also been stopped!
The box you mentioned was for WordPress.com Live Chat. We’re working towards making live chat more available to our paid users, so watch this spot. :) We don’t currently have guaranteed hours but while we work at that, you can always get in touch via our contact form.
get me a business contract on both blogs without further payment, and then, hopefully, I will get the help I need, and be able to just write posts and excite people about either crafts or networking
The editor is the same for all of our users, and those with the WordPress.com Business plan don’t have a different one to you. I hope the switch to an updated browser helps prevent you losing your posts’ formatting again. If it doesn’t, we’ll be right here to help test and work things through with you.
-
just read the comments on the blog
I’m not the only one, and I have put out notices to ask who else is having the same problem
don’t appreciate being fobbed off – and I’ve been saying you are checking the blog and others can get help too – so don’t disappoint them
-
Hi Julz.
I’ve read through your blog post and contacted Roni privately, I can see she’d commented with a similar problem to what you described in this thread. We really do want to troubleshoot and get to the root cause of this issue so that we’re able to help fix it.
-
http://julzcrafts.com/2015/03/24/test-on-chrome/
yes – the formatting has got changed – went back and added a new section, also added your advice about accessing the classic edit option
be a good idea if you read it very carefully, AND the new comments – and any new comments that come in for the next few days/weeks?!
-
Hi Julz.
Thank you so much for all the testing that you’re doing. This is a strange issue as it seems to pop up only on occasion and is proving tricky for us to replicate. We definitely want to get to the bottom of this and so I’ve passed all of the details you’ve provided so far onto our wider team.
It’d be really helpful for us to pinpoint whether this problem only comes up when making changes in the new editor or if it comes up with the classic one too. Were you able to access the classic editor with the instructions in my previous reply? If so, could you try only making edits there from now on. We’ll then be able to see if this problem comes up there too.
As an aside note: While reading your post, I saw that you couldn’t find a way to underline or change the colour of your text in the new editor. The tools for these things can be found by clicking the Toolbar Toggle button. When clicked, a second bar of tools will be revealed, including Underline and Text Colour. I’ve created a screenshot with each of these buttons outlined for you:
https://cloudup.com/c71qgrd-orpAdditionally, I’ve read through the latest comments on your post and have contacted rustygarnersmith via email regarding the trouble they reported.
Thanks again for all of your help.
-
Thanks siobhyb – I do know your name, but can’t remember how to spell it – smile
I’m glad you have passed this problem on, I really am getting fed up with it – and feel I can’t re-edit any post – even when it needs it, for fear of the same thing happening again.
However, I did just re-edit the post on julzcards/the spare, because it looked so silly! I had to leave some info in about the problem, because i linked it from the “test on chrome” – and that has worked out fine!
I have just tried to access the classic editor – thro safari – as you instructed and yes, the old one came up, but as i don’t want to post anything at the moment, that’s as much as I can tell you.
I also clicked on the pencil in chrome and obviously edit ‘lite’ came up – and yes, the toggle button showed the rest of the stuff – but I truly didn’t even think to press that button, because the layout of the page and the feel of it, made it clear it was ‘yet another different page’, and I just assumed that what I saw was what I got!
Whilst that may be ‘my fault’ I doubt if I’d be the only one not to think of using the toggle – and polls & forms are NOT included – what someone in wordpress hasn’t understood is the 1st rule of business
THINK LIKE A CUSTOMER
most of the bloggers have not done the 101 course and are hesitant about using the formats, and there is NOTHING that I saw that said – you may choose to write your post on this edit sheet, which gives you less options – or whatever gloss you want to give it – or you can choose these other sheets which will do this – but maybe are not as “easy” to use.
If you get presented with something, you take it at face value – I just assumed you’d stopped people using the classic one for some silly reason only known to your designers – and in the mood I was already in, it made me angry!
The instructions for choosing what format to use should be on each edit page, every time, so people can make their own choices, and for people who didn’t even know about the variations – which I didn’t at first.
I knew you were changing things round, as there IS a prompt to use the simpler version on the classic one, but there isn’t anything on the simpler version to allow you to switch to classic.
Its just a lack of thinking by your design team, but its caused me a load of trouble – and I have no intention of going back to that post and correcting all my assumptions – they were honest ones.
If you want to do it, that’s fine – you are welcome to comment as well as anyone else.
I would suggest that you also put a link on each of these pages, to full instructions on how to use them – then maybe I would have seen the ‘obvious’!
And why is there not an email notification to EVERY wordpress blogger to tell them of the changes you are making – why hide the fact that you are making changes – it only confuses people when something they are happy using, suddenly disappears.
I always say, if someone doesn’t answer a question – they have something to hide.
Neath Port Talbot didn’t answer me questions first time round – if they had, I would never have published that post – and it has embarrassed them -which they deserved, because they tried hiding stuff. I know I didn’t get all the answers, but I have suggested they set up a page on the website that gives that kind of information, so everyone can see it.
Its actually good PR if you admit to having some problems – smile!
thanks for taking up my suggestion that you contact people who have left comments on the blog about their problems – I have left new replies to everyone who commented to alert them to the update, and on the two that you told me you contacted, have acknowledged that you are being pro -active – so I’m not always critical! smile
nuff for now – If you keep this thread open, I will come back to you when I next blog to tell you what is going on – good or bad!
thanks

OK – an update
I am just trying to reformat the post about the bins, in Chrome
http://julzcrafts.com/2015/03/19/the-new-bins-cost-475916-20/
I am using the classic edit page, and up until I updated the page and for some reason, clicked the edit somewhere else – can’t exactly remember where – instead of going thro the rigmarole of having to go to the posts page once the reformat has been updated – am doing it in parts ….
and it took me to edit lite instead, which then mangled up the portion of the blog that startsmy third email
but only that portion!
I did have the picture of the fire there, and thought maybe that was causing the problem, so took it out, but the lines are still not spaced – although I practically reworked the whole section several times and in edit mode there is a line space between at least 4 places that is not appearing in the updated version.
Can you have a look at it and see what is happening?
Its not as serious as the whole of the beginning of the post being cramped together, and I could live with it
BUT IT IS STILL A FAULT IN THE EDITING PROCESS, and I really would like to feel I can trust wordpress to sort this out, so that I can feel SAFE about putting up posts that matter to me!
and yes, after i got into edit lite, I got right out again, and didn’t edit anything in that page, been back to classic all the times I have tried to make it look right, but the mangled bit seems unfixable!
So what has happeni
-
Hi Julz.
Was it new line breaks that were lost in your latest edit also? I’m looking at the revisions but not quite able to see exactly what got mangled.
In regards to your other posts: I know that you pasted content over from Mail to your post about the bins but for the other two example posts you gave, can I just confirm whether you were editing directly within WordPress.com or if you’d pasted content over to them also?
Additionally, has this problem been coming up since January or did you notice it happening at a later stage?
Sorry for all of the many, many questions, also. :) I just want to make sure that I have all of the details that will be useful for our developers on this.

AS FAR as I remember, I didn’t write it down!
I was happily editing the post in classic mode, but as it was a post that was already published, there isn’t a save option, just update – so each time I wanted to save it to preview it, I had to go back to the “post” page, which got a bit tedious, so I think I clicked the edit button on the published post, which I thought might be safer – smile! At that point I only had a few lines to do, and oddly the third email was fine, the spacing was correct.
as soon as I saw it was in edit lite, i could see that the text was getting squashed again, so i didn’t even type one letter, I just left the page.
the third email bit had lost its spacing -, and when I tried to put it back, adding some returns to give extra line spaces between paragraphs, they appeared in the edit, but not on the published page.
I went back several times, delelted the spare space rows, backed up to the last bit of text and added the spaced lines again – didn’t work.
thought i’d leave it like that for you to see, rather than copy and pasting it back in from the original email
whew – it takes so long to explain what you did in seconds!
I don’t plan what I’m going to write – so I don’t prepare it beforehand in any other application off line – I just write straight onto the page online, and this way I can see what its looking like, because I do go by formatting and the look as well as the text content!
this means that i can often save and preview just the one change in size of text or colour and there are numerous saved versions, that I can never use them because they look so similar, and I can;t work out which one i want!!!!
Specifically, once in a while, before I joined the blogging course, I found that I couldn’t place pictures where I wanted them, and even if I deleted them, and put them in several times, I just couldn’t get it right.
I must have spent ages trying to get the pictures aligned properly! and the last one never did go right!
But I never had any problems with the text spacing.
This only seems to have been in the last couple of months.
see my show & tell archive page – its a mess, because the text kept getting mangled – by which I mean the spaces kept disappearing – i must have spent hours on getting them back!there is also one picture in the list of posts – ironically, for the most popular – the painted spinning wheel, that just wouldn’t go anywhere that I tried to put it – so again, I gave up!
Obviously I return to the published page to add new posts to the list, so this is an issue of, as I can now confirm, returning to published posts.
Please don’t ask me any more about this – I really can’t tell you the exact dates these things happened, but they are happening with more frequency lately!
And, I am almost finished adding a new post to julzcrafts, which has been done on safari, all on the classic editing page, and looks fine to me at the moment! cross fingers!
