After premium upgrade can i combine two accounts into one ?

  • Unknown's avatar

Just upgraded to premium. I have a wordpress account already which i host a domain thru bluehost. I thought that by upgrading to premium that I could simply access all the new themes from within the same account. But it is in fact completely separate . In the upgraded process i was asked if i wanted to get another domain since upgrading to premium includes that. So i got one. Now i have no idea how to access my premium account. Is there anyway in which these could be co-joined?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I can help you get this straightened out.

So, the WordPress.com Premium upgrade includes:

    -A Free Domain
    -Custom Design
    -VideoPress
    -Space Upgrade
    -Ad-Free

For more info, you can refer to this page: http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/

Despite the similar name, WordPress.com Premium doesn’t include any of the Premium themes available here:

    Premium Themes

I am seeing that you have set WordPress.com Premium up on facialisland.wordpress.com with the domain facialisland.com. From what I can see, your other site is a self-hosted WordPress site connected to Jetpack, http://www.taiwanfacialmasks.com/. As taiwanfacialmasks.com is a self hosted site, it cannot really take advantage of any WordPress.com upgrades such as Premium.

So, please let me know if any of this does not make sense or if you have any questions (or if I have misunderstood anything). If it ends up that you decide that you would like a refund, I can of course help you with that.

Root Josh thanks for your reply much appreciated. The “premium” upgrade part is a bit misleading but perhaps i didnt read it carefully enough. Are the free “themes” in the premium account better than the free account or the same? The main reason i chose “premium” was in fact to get a better theme. So thats why i feel short-changed. So i would appreciate more clarity on this part because when i did research online a lot of people talk about the importance of having an upgrade to premium due to the fact that you can get a much better theme. But now since a theme is not included i am thinking that i could of easily just got a theme for around US$40 at another theme provider and saved myself 60 bucks , right? So from what i am understanding the only advantage of getting premium now is video press, more space , ad-free and also to get upgrades ? if it included just one theme ( without having to fork out another 60- 80 bucks or so ) i think this would have been better …but to get to go thru the upgrade and them to see that one is not included is disappointing to say the least.

  • Let me see if I can clear things up for you.

Are the free “themes” in the premium account better than the free account or the same?

    They are the same.

i did research online a lot of people talk about the importance of having an upgrade to premium due to the fact that you can get a much better theme.

I think you may have been misreading what they were saying. There is a lot of advice out there about “premium” offering better themes. But they are encouraging you to look for a “premium” (aka “paid”) theme.

But now since a theme is not included i am thinking that i could of easily just got a theme for around US$40 at another theme provider and saved myself 60 bucks , right?

The only themes that will work with WordPress.com sites are those listed here:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/

Themes purchased elsewhere are designed for self-hosted WordPress sites using the free software available on WordPress.org.

So from what i am understanding the only advantage of getting premium now is video press, more space , ad-free and also to get upgrades ?

    Correct. WordPress.com Premium includes:

    • A Free Domain
    • Custom Design
    • VideoPress
    • Space Upgrade
    • Ad-Free

if it included just one theme ( without having to fork out another 60- 80 bucks or so ) i think this would have been better …but to get to go thru the upgrade and them to see that one is not included is disappointing to say the least.

I can understand that and will pass your feedback on to the upgrade team.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if any of this is unclear!

Hello Rootjosh please could you arrange a refund for facialisland.com as i see no additional value to me to pay this US$99 when what i really wanted was an upgrade of website themes which i was under the impression was included. Futhermore, correct me if i am wrong , i get the same value being hosted at bluehost (if not more) with taiwanfacialmasks.com using wordpress to build my blogs and website as i do being hosted directly at wordpress?
One last point please CFM i will still have my website domain that i registered along with the $99 wordpress deal ? i dont mind paying /deducting something from the $99 deal to retain it but its real important i keep that domain name. Thanks in advance for all your help!

  • I have refunded $73 which is the $99 Premium Upgrade price minus the $26 for domain registration/mapping/privacy.

Futhermore, correct me if i am wrong , i get the same value being hosted at bluehost (if not more) with taiwanfacialmasks.com using wordpress to build my blogs and website as i do being hosted directly at wordpress?

That is really hard to conclusively say one way or the other. WordPress.com offers a different feature set than what you get when you self-host. For some people, the lack of having to update, backup, secure, host, etc their WordPress site is worth a significant amount. for others who are looking for a specific feature set that is not supported by WordPress.com, going to a self-hosted site is the better choice.

i will still have my website domain that i registered along with the $99 wordpress deal ?

    Absolutely.

Thanks a lot Rootjosh. Appreciate the refund and the domain registration. One last question : With my wordpress sited hotes at Bluehost – am i not able to update, backup, secure and host my wordpress site ?

  • You absolutely should be able to. My point is that those tasks are all your responsibility to complete. Using WordPress.com takes a lot of that off your hands.

Hey Rootjosh thank you for all your help well noted. One last final note. The domain name facialisland.come – would like to possibly use the domain name elsewhere and also possibly use domain forwarding so that whenever someone aims to go to facialisland.com they get redirected to taiwanfacialmasks.com. Would you please put me in the right direction and let me know where i can access and manage the domain from my wordpress account in this way ( facialisland.com )

  • You would want to purchase the Site Redirect upgrade:

    Site Redirect

  • Unknown's avatar

Understand that i can do that in site redirect tks for the info. Little confused. Am i still able to build my website at wordpress with facialisland.com ? I see i still have the account hosted at wordpress for facial island – will that area and/or some of the parts of it disappear shortly ? Or will it remain but minus the perks offered by the $99 upgrade ( No Custom Design, no VideoPress, no Space Upgrade and not Ad-Free). Just want to make sure i am clear on that. So can i continue building the facialisland website thru website but minus those upgraded perks right ? And for email , is there any support for having an email account which will include the facialisland name in it ? like if i wanted my email to be (email visible only to moderators and staff) as an example?

  • Or will it remain but minus the perks offered by the $99 upgrade ( No Custom Design, no VideoPress, no Space Upgrade and not Ad-Free).

    This is correct.

is there any support for having an email account which will include the facialisland name in it ?

You have two options for that:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/
