After the latest updates – Problems with the "improved editor"
-
Hi
I feel that the latest updates have messed up things a little bit. The shortcomings that I am experiencing is related to the so-called “improved post editor”. The editor that should be easier to handle?
Since the new updates were made a short time ago, I can no longer find an easy way to switch from the “improved” to the “classic post editor”. I would like it to be easier to exclude the improved, or as I suppose that it´s meant to be, “simplified editor”. As it is for the moment, I always end up in that simplified view, even when I don´t want to. My experience is that the “classic post editor” is both better and more stable.Today I also noticed that the “simplified editor” did not follow commands when I tried to add images. I tried to get a picture below a paragraph of text, but every time it ended up at the top of the post?
Also, a YouTube link was not included in the post until I added it through the “classic editor”.Is there any soon coming updates that will fix some of these problems?

Hi Louise,
Along with the new post editor, we’ve also been working on a new dashboard setup – the “My Sites” area. The new post editor is meant to integrate more with this area over time, and less with the /wp-admin/ dashboard.
Lots of folks still prefer the /wp-admin/ dashboard and its post editor, so we’re leaving it available for those that want to use it. But you’re right, it is hard to switch between the new and the old.
If you know you always want to use the /wp-admin/ post editor we recommend setting up browser bookmarks that help you get to /wp-admin/ quickly. In particular, I recommend one for the dashboard, for the All Posts page, and for the Add New Post page (all in wp-admin).
Today I also noticed that the “simplified editor” did not follow commands when I tried to add images. I tried to get a picture below a paragraph of text, but every time it ended up at the top of the post?
Also, a YouTube link was not included in the post until I added it through the “classic editor”.This is interesting, because the new editor calls on the same plugins for adding and embedding media that the /wp-admin/ editor does.
Could you send me link(s) to the post(s) that had these errors? So I can test the issues using the same content?
Best,
-Alex G.

Hi … :)
Ok, but I am not sure i understand why the connecting link is gone, from the new editor to the wp-editor. But I will do as you say and use bookmarks, because the wp-admin feels a lot more handleable. And even if every function is avaliable in the new admin (but not with guiding text in the same way), I find it all more logic i the wp-admin.And the other thing happened with my last post:
https://imitttankerum.wordpress.com/2015/03/28/vilken-harlig-dag-det-varit/
The problem appeared when I tried to insert the picture with flowers from a URL. It turned up in the top of the post every time. I tried 3 times before I turned over to the wp-admin where it was no problem at all./Louise

Hi Louise,
Thanks for the post. I’ll test this out and send a notice to our developers once I find the cause.
Were there any problems inserting the gallery (near the top)? Or did you add that later in the /wp-admin/ as well?

I added the gallery later, in the wp-admin. If you like I could try to do something similar once again in the new editor?

I tried once again, and this time everything went fine?
If I’m not able to recreate the issue myself, I can’t expect you to … I guess?
I can only tell you that for me the new editor behaves more unstable than the classic wp-editor. This was not the first time for me.
Maybe it’s just me who have these questions? But if others also have issues with the new editor/admin, maybe there is need for some kind of checkout?

It’s possible a developer had made some changes to the way media was being handled in the editor, and then removed/revised those changes — that would explain why it acted poorly for you earlier and why neither of us can recreate it now. We’re doing a lot of work on that new editor and dashboard, so the code changes frequently.
I appreciate the report either way – every issue tested out helps up make the editor better. :)
When we first introduced the new editor, we included a link to switch back to the /wp-admin/ editor, but going forward the new editor is the ‘default,’ so to speak, and the link wasn’t getting very much use. For now there’s still a link to /wp-admin/ dashboard both in My Sites and in the Admin Bar, but your own bookmarks will be the best way to reach the /wp-admin/ editor predictably, so that’s what we’ve been recommending.

Me to, appreciate all the generous help I get with all my questions … :)
It makes i it worth the the effort to contact all you nice people who works with the support. That link you are talking about was used by me … often … ;)
It’s a pity that It’s not enough, and that I have to accept that the world does not circles around me … ;)
Anyway, my belief is that NOT everyone saw the link, because it was rather anonymously presented. It took a while before I, myself, found it. And the link was also moved … once at least.I have expressed my point of view, and i can´t do more than that.
I have got some tip, at least … and that’s nice … :DThanks
/Louise
