  • Hi Bob,

WordPress.com sites are given a yoursite.wordpress.com URL. We have an upgrade, Domain Mapping, that allows users who already own a domain to replace that yoursite.wordpress.com URL with their own yoursite.com URL. traffic to yoursite.com will be directed to yoursite.wordpress.com and site visitors will only ever see the yoursite.com URL.

However, all the backend/admin domains are still built around the yoursite.wordpress.com domain. So while users will only see your kangarawatersresidents.org domain, you will see http://kangararesidents.wordpress.com/ when working in the dashboard/admin side of the site.

Regarding plugins, we don’t allow plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons. Plugins are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs using the WordPress software available through WordPress.org. You can find out more about this topic here: http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/

For more information on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please see: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
