Agency locking my friend out of his account

Hi there – I’m writing on behalf of a friend who hired an agency to help him with marketing. But now that he has canceled their contract he’s learned that his username and password to his site have been deleted and he no longer has access to it. What is the proper recourse that he has to regain access to his site and ensure the agency doesn’t maliciously delete all of his content?

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • As was pointed out in your other thread on the same topic, we need to know the URL of the site in question to see if we can help.

Is the site hosted on WordPress.com? If so, we may be able to help. Is it a site built with the WordPress software but hosted with another webhost (GoDaddy, Bluehost, etc)? In that case we will not be able to help. Your friend will need to talk to the webhost.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I created this second post to add the URL in the field that indicated staff and admins can see it. Are you not able to see the URL?

And thanks for the clarification on the hosting. I’ll have to check on that and reply back, if in fact hosted by WordPress. Thanks.

  • Hi there,

There is a URL in you post above, but that URL is for an empty, free WordPress.com site. That site belongs to the pinpointa account you used to post here, and you’re the only user on that site.

If you’re speaking of one of the other two sites in your account, those aren’t hosted with us, only connected here via the Jetpack plugin. Your account is also the only Jetpack user on those two sites.

We don’t have any control over the WP-Admin user accounts on those sites. For help with that you’ll need an existing admin on the site to give your friend access, or otherwise you’d need access to the hosting account to create a new user account/reset credentials directly in the database.

The site that matches your WordPress.com site’s address appears to be hosted at Hover.com, so you can try contacting them for help with this.

The other domain appears to be pointed at Squarespace.com, so it’s no longer a WordPress site on that domain.

I hope this helps you get to the bottom of this.
