    If I use WP.com for my sites, is there a way I can prevent AI scraping of my content? I don’t want my writing to be used to feed generative bots for AI to copy and steal.
    I’ve heard WP.org makes this possible, are there plug-ins I can use with WP.com? Or should I switch to .org?

    Hi there!

    At present, we don’t have a way to prevent such bots from crawling/scraping content from WordPress.com sites. However, you can use plugins with the WordPress.com Business plan. You won’t have to switch over to self-hosted WordPress.org to use plugins.

    That means if you already found plugins that prevent AI bots, all you need on your WordPress.com site is the Business plan!

    In addition to enabling plugins and third-party themes, the WordPress.com Business plan has advanced hosting features that you may find useful (like real-time automatic backups, SSH, SFTP, staging sites, etc.). Many of these are not available on most standard shared WordPress.org hosting providers.

    On WordPress.com sites without a plugin, you could set the site to private, but that would prevent human visitors from visiting the site too. There’s also the option to discourage search engines from crawling your site, but you may want search engines to crawl for SEO purposes, and there’s no guarantee that bots from large language models or AI tools will honor that setting.

    Is there a plug-in that can be used to prevent AI companies from scraping your content on .com or .org? Anywhere in the world? I don’t use my blog much, but I refuse to write another word for the AI barons to steal — except for the things I’m forced to write for my employer.
