AI scraping

I read that you are going to sell the content which I created and which is therefore my copyright, to AI companies: https://gizmodo.com/wordpress-tumblr-plan-sell-user-content-ai-companies-1851291225
    Is this true?
If so, I require that my blog content be excluded from any data you do sell as it is not yours to sell and that such use is not ‘fair use’.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

We work with a variety of third-party partners and provide an opt-out if you’d prefer your public content not be part of these agreements. If you activate the “Prevent third-party sharing” feature at https://wordpress.com/settings/general/ it excludes your site’s public content from our network of partners.

    Hope this helps!

Are you sure that checking this box will absolutely and definitively prevent all AI scraping from our blogs? Or is it just a preference that they are free to ignore? If it is the latter, I will begin my search for another platform.

Partners only get what we send them and we do not send data from accounts that have opted out.

    I hope that clarifies things!

My main blogs are paid accounts. I opted out as soon as I heard about this plan. However, because I am paying for WordPress to host my content, this is an entirely different situation from Reddit or Facebook where the service is free and the customer is really the product. I chose WordPress because of this different business model. Why does Automattic think that it has the right to sell my content to third parties when I am just paying them to host it? I shouldn’t have to opt out to avoid it. It compromises the WordPress business model. Why would anyone agree to this? Some people will be tricked into allowing this through inattention, but this plan seems to me to be fundamentally unethical.
