Akismet blocks comments without showing them to me
-
Hi everyone,
I hope this question fits in here and has not been asked dozens of times before.
I have noticed that the number of comments blocked by Akismet keeps going up even though Akismet does not ask me to check if a comment is spam.
Where are the comments going that are treated as spam right away? How does Akismet decide which ones can be treated as spam right away and which ones need to be presented to me first? How can I be sure that it doesn’t treat completely legitimate comments as spam when I have no chance to check them?In their FAQ they write “When the plugin catches something as spam it saves it in the database for 15 days in case you want to check it out manually and then automattically deletes it”, but I cannot find any of these comments stored anywhere.
I’d be glad to gain a little insight into the workings of Akismet. Thanks a lot,
Kristin. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, that’s what I was trying to explain: These comments do not show up as spam. I only know that they must have been there because the number in “Akismet has protected your site from … spam comments already” increases steadily.
(That’s not for all of the spam comments, some show up under “spam” and can be deleted or accepted. I’m not talking about these now.) -
Go to settings > discussion and make sure that under comment moderation “Don’t discard spam on old posts” is selected and hit “save changes.”

Thanks a lot!! I checked it and am curious to see what happens now :) (I read the option before but somehow was not aware of the “n’t”.)

I do not have “Don’t discard spam on old posts” selected and I am still NOT receiving all of the “supposed” spam messages. I say “supposed” because I had two colleagues try to leave comments on posts and neither of them showed up anywhere. The only thing I can assume is that Akismet decided they were spam and deleted them BEFORE I was able to approve or disapprove them. Of course, you can’t turn off Akismet when using WordPress.com, so you are stuck with a program that does not seem to be functioning properly. Our company is considering swithing to WordPress.org to get away from this problem

Hm … it started again. The box is still selected but the number of deleted spam goes up without me seeing any of it in the spam folder. Have there been any changes made by Akismet or WP?

Please ask Akismet support questions here:
If you’re referring to a specific comment, please provide as much information as you can – date, email, IP if you know it.

How can I refer to a specific comment, if I don’t see any of them? But thanks for the hint, I’ll ask them. Just thought I’d try here first as the problem could be solved here last time.
