Akismet built in feature
-
Hi @supernovia I’d like to clarify few thing s with regards to this thread you replied about captcha. Thank you.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/captcha-5/#post-3428577But we do have built-in features that protect you: Akismet for comment and form spam, which is nice because people don’t have to captcha to comment. We handle it for you behind the scenes.
This is super useful information to know that you guys handle the captcha feature backend. I never came across this feature but read about it when someone asked how to remove this feature because people were facing problems to leave comments. Have a look at this thread about captcha that I came across.

Questions:
Now since its a built in feature, how can we upgrade Akismet? I saw they have different plans on their site. So does this mean we 1st have to upgrade our WordPress.com plan to business or higher and then purchase a separate plan with Akismet if we want more features? OR does it already come included when we upgrade or WP plan.2FA. Just be sure you add backup contact and keep a copy of your backup codes.
Can you share more inforation about this? I assume this is a plugin that you can install once you have upgraded your WP plan? Where can I find more information about?
Next, can we say captcha is another form of word verification? Sometimes people use different terminologies and it may mean the same thing or vice versa. So you as an expert in this field, what would you say?
Lastly, as volunteers, when we come across questions like this, can we use the same reply that you have written (provided of course the situation is the same). Because i’m sure many of us are wondering about it and thanks to your reply, you’ve cleared my previous question that captcha is a built in feature but it’s only handle by the staff so we can’t see it. The more information we learn the better we are able to help others.
Thanks for sharing and taking your time to reply. Have a nice day =)

All WordPress.com sites, regardless of plan, uses the exact same implementation of Akismet. It’s not possible to upgrade, but there’s also no need.

2FA stands for two-factor authentication, and is an extra level of security to control access to your WordPress.com username account:
It has nothing to do with CAPTCHA, and nothing to do with Akismet.

I’m not sure why you’d want to say anything about CAPTCHA. It’s not a feature that is used on WordPress.com, as @justjennifer also told you in https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/word-verification-2/#post-3428524
If someone is encountering a CAPTCHA feature on their site, it’s not a WordPress.com site, and you should direct them to contact support for whatever plugin it is they’re using that’s adding CAPTCHA to their site.
