AKISMET GONE WILD

  • Unknown's avatar

This morning I logged in and found 15 different member posts — all regular readers and regular commentors, had their posts ID’d by Akismet as SPAM. It’s as though Akismet is just roaming, trolling, illogically targeting posts as SPAM when nothing is further from the truth. Is there some way to turn Akismet down a notch? Please don’t say Akismet is text driven. One poster wrote “I agree.” This was targeted by Akismet as SPAM.

    Hihi, from http://akismet.com/faq/:

Help! Akismet is catching a regular comment as spam!

Don’t worry, if you see a regular comment on your Akismet page, just click the “Not Spam” checkbox and submit and the comment will be sent back to Akismet as a mistake. The system will learn from your submission, though it may take a day or so in some cases. False positives, as they’re called, are extremely rare and we watch them closely.

I’m worried as well. Askimet can’t keep my spam marked comments away from me forever. Spam marked comments as well as genuine spam was addressed to me. Not Askimet. That company have no right to take away my “mail” from me.

Askimet totally lost it’s ability to do it’s job. Robbery is not what it should be doing. I want them to send me what was addressed to me.

I sincerely hope that they still have it all. From the beginning of this problem. Not just the last couple of weeks.

Askimet should stop that illegal censorship. Because that is what it is now. It might be accidental but that makes no difference. It does not give them the right to make decisions on my behalf. This is so far out.

I have to go to work. I don’t have time to clean up after Akismet.

I’ll just have to hope my readers are understanding as I fish their comments inaccurately yanked into SPAM later today.

What’s very odd is, these are REGULAR, LONGTIME COMMENTORS. What would suddenly trigger Akismet and make it set it’s eye on my blog?

I do think Akismet needs to be made an optional feature. If it were, I would turn it off.

All the comments that Askimet incorrectly marked as spam but neglected to forward to our blogs – that would be the real problem. It has been going on for several month now.

    I hear ya, Universalgeni.

It’s my lunch hour and I just plucked 52 posts out of the Akismet SPAM bucket that were reader’s comments.

This is totally unacceptable. WordPress needs to either fix Akismet or turn the damned thing off.

fromtheleft, this doesn’t seem to be the kind of problem we (normal forum users) can deal with. You should contact support: http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

  • Our spam ninjas are working on this now.
