Akismet has detected a problem…
-
I have my spam filter set to strict and comment moderation set so an initial comment must be approved. A recent spam comment made it through the filter (still held for moderation) and I received a message at the top of the comment box “Akismet has detected a problem….” After clicking on a link to “Akismet configuration,” I was redirected to another message indicating that page didn’t exist or that I didn’t have authorization.
Screen shots of both messages:
I’m not worried about spam, since comment moderation seems to still be capturing new stuff, but the “not authorized” message is concerning.
I checked my “Discussion” settings and they are still set to Strict and First Comment. Is there something else I should do, or is this nothing to worry about.
I have cleared cookies and cache, and am using Safari 7.0.4.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having the same issue on my blog, http://thefuj.com
That and it seems Akismet is holding all spam in moderation now, and I’m receiving a notification for every spam in moderation as well.

Hi there,
Just to confirm, you received an error message that read “Akismet has detected a problem…” at the top of your admin screen. Is that correct? If possible, could you grab a screenshot?
Regarding the spam comments, I checked your spam comment folder, and it looks like the majority of those comments are legitimate spam. Have you noticed normal comments being caught by the spam filter as well?
Finally, regarding the spam comment notifications, you’re currently receiving notification for every comment caught in the spam filter correct?

Hi there,
It looks like Akismet is indeed catching spam comments. For example, this comment shown here was caught as spam by Akismet:
https://fujontap.wordpress.com/wp-admin/comment.php?action=editcomment&c=74216#akismet-status
You can tell based on the comment history, which reads:
5 mins ago – Akismet caught this comment as spam
Is that notification at the top of your page still appearing regularly or is that screenshot from sometime in the past?
As for the notifications, you’re receiving notifications for each comment held in moderation based on your Discussion settings. Currently, you’re set to receive an email for all interactions on your blog posts including when a comment is held for moderation. Only commenters with a previously approved comment are not held for moderation meaning you’ll receive notification of all comments unless the commenter has a previously approved comment. You can adjust these settings here:
https://fujontap.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php
Specifically, you’ll want to adjust the header under “E-mail me whenever”.

That message is there all the time. Spam comes through for moderation, when it should just be going to spam. I just got another now trying to sell Lululemon gear.
I do want moderation on, and I do want notifications for new commenters who have not been approved yet, so my notification settings are correct. I just want spam to go to spam, and I don’t want to be notified or 10+ spam emails a day that are being held in moderation when they should just being going to spam.

Hi there,
I apologize for the issue. It looks like there may have been some temporary blips in the Akismet connection that allowed these spam comments to slip through into your moderation. We’re taking a deeper look to see if we can pinpoint the cause. I’ll get back to you as soon as I have more info!
