Akismet help?

I am not moderating comments on my blog – I just get a note on my Stats page telling me that Akismet has caught X number of spam messages, but it won’t show them to me. Is there any way to review them to be sure it’s not blocking valid comments? Sorry if this is in the documentation, but if it’s there I can’t find it.

Well your caught spam should be listed at Dashboard -> Comments -> Aksimet spam but that is emptied every so many days so what is currently there probably doesn’t match up with the current count.
For reference, comments marked as spam attached to posts older than 30 days used to be autodeleted but 1) we believe that’s been stopped and 2) I’m showing that you;ve only been here for a month so that shouldn’t apply.

Right – I was holding steady at 24 spam caught for a couple of weeks, and in the three days since my last post that number has jumped to 36, which is why I wonder if it’s round-filing legit comments. I just double-checked Dashboard -> Comments -> Aksimet spam and it’s empty…

My bet is that they’ll show up after a few days. I had a similar problem on one of my blogs (which has only been up 2 weeks or so). In my case I knew something should have been there because a friend commented and it didn’t show up in moderation or Akismet. After about 2 days it showed up in Akismet.
I had him post a test comment and the same thing happened. I emailed support and was told it was fixed but the comment going into spam was lost. Yet it showed up about a day later. Thankfully unspamming him a second time allowed a third comment to go through to moderation.
I found it interesting that a comment of mine got thrown into spam (and didn’t show up for a few days) on that blog yet comments I was making on a different blog of mine went through just fine.
Akismet can be very fickle (as we’re finding out on some forums that recently got tied into Akismet).

Thanks for the info! But I wonder – would I need to turn on moderation in order to see them, or will they just magically appear on the blog at some point? -
I really have no idea. I’ve moderated comments from the beginning. Let us know if they appear automagically.
