Akismet link keeps redirecting to Dashboard
-
Hi all,
I’ve been looking and searching for an answer regarding the “Akismet has protected your site from XXX spam comments.” link on my dashboard. I’ve clicked on that link to view what spams have been taken off my site but it keeps redirecting me to the dashboard. Is anyone encountering this issue? I’ve read that the link should look something like this “…wp-admin/edit-comments.php?page=akismet-admin” but had no success.
Am I missing something? Or am I not going into the right places?
Many thanks!-Tim

We need a link to the blog you are talking about please.
In general though you click on the “spam queue” linked text, or click on the word “spam” in the “right now” section or under comments in the left navigation section you click on comments and then at the top of that list of comments click on the “spam” link.
Akismet has protected your site from 310 spam comments already.
There’s nothing in your spam queue at the moment. -

Thanks thesacredpath. I have noticed that and been into that link. The link I was talking about is at the bottom right of the dashboard page where it says “Akismet has protected your site from 603 spam comments.” (SPAM section) and not the “Right Now” section. There’s a link when you hover over “603 spam comments”.
Whatever Akismet has stopped doesn’t seem to appear in the ‘spam queue’ link. Hence I wanted to see what actually Akismet has stopped. So for your example, where can you see the 310 spam comments Akismet has protected your site from?
Many thanks again.

There’s a “Spam” link you can click to see the spam on your Edit Comments page. Look at the illustration here and look for these links http://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-comments/

Depending on the settings on your site I think that Akismet will throw spam away after a certain amount of time so depending on the age of your blog you might not be able to find all the spam.

Hi TimeThief,
I have been there to have a look, but I still can’t see the 603 comments Akismet has stopped. Am I suppose to see it there? If I am, wordpress certainly doesn’t show it for me. It has zero spam comments. But my dashboard tells me there are 603.

Check your Discussion page settings On your Discussions setting page, “Comment Moderation” > “Comment Moderation enable __ Don’t discard spam on old posts”. This should prevent automatically deleting old spam comments.

When akismet marks a message as spam, it does nothing to the comment except marking it as spam. It does not block a visitor from coming to your site. Some messages that may appear to be genuine are in fact spam, disguised to trick you into letting a spammer post a link to your blog.
Spam will generally be shown on your Comments / Spam tab for 15 days. There are two exceptions:
1. Spam on old posts (those you wrote more than a month ago) will normally be discarded instead. That’s because old posts sometimes attract very large amounts of spam, but rarely see any real comments – reviewing them all is a waste of time.
You can disable this feature with the __ Don’t discard spam on old posts setting. But I wouldn’t recommend leaving it that way – it will fill up your Spam tab with even more spam, and make it harder to check it all.
2. Some of the worst spammers are blocked outright from posting comments on WordPress.com. These will be counted as caught by Akismet, but you won’t see them. There’s no way to disable this feature – we use it to defend our servers and networks from large scale abuse. Tellyworth

Just saw that option. Thanks TimeThief.
I know I have 16 comments been captured by Akismet this month. Is that considered “old” and deleted by Akismet? Any chance I can still view if those 16 are legitimate?
It’ll be a bummer if I can’t …

You answered my questions before I can ask them! You’re a champ! :D
Many thanks! Guess I shouldn’t worry too much if I can’t find them in my SPAM link, even though the Akismet count keeps going up.
Cheers!

If they aren’t there they aren’t there and that’s that. Make sure you set your Comment Moderation settings on your Discussion page the way that suits you. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

@timmychai, Akismet is seriously accurate on the spams that it automatically deletes because they are from 100% known spammers. If Akismet automatically tosses a comment it catches you can be sure it is spam. Anything it has any doubt about at all will show up for you to review.

Ah ok.Thanks sacredpath.
Thank you very much for your help guys. It clears things up for me.
