akismet question

Does akismet really work, or does it just add false ghost readings daily? I have a new “Spam” almost daily accorsing to Akismet, and yet , though I have set it up to save the “Spams” in Queue till I read them, there are still none there…Akismet says there have been 9 in the past week.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Akismet really works. 83% of all comments are spam and there are people with blogs that get literally hundreds of spam comments each day, and the vast majority of those are intercepted by akismet.
According to another thread, staff said that there was an issue here at wordpress.COM where not all spam comments were being blocked and counted, but they were not appearing in the list. It is something they are working on, but it is being elusive.
Check at settings > discussion under “comment moderation” and make sure you have “Don’t discard spam on old posts” selected. Make sure and click save changes.

Thanks, Sacred Path, But yes, I did that the first time you told me to, and have doble checked it on several occasions. Ok, well, I only wanted to make sure.

Trying to set up Akismet as a spam blocker. I down-loaded it & then was told to upload it to the WordPress plug-ins directory inside of wp-content. Can’t find ‘wp-content’. Another post on this subject (under help search ‘wp-content’) simply says it’s for use for wordpress.org — So I don’t need Akismet? It didn’t say that on the akismet site or on my blog page under my settings anywhere. Please clarify if I need the akismet spam blocker.

Akismet is automatically installed on all WordPress.com blogs.
And yes, it really works. Not all spam shows up in your queue on WordPress.com – we sometimes block the worst of it.

Is there any way I can see the actual number of spam comments Akismet has caught on my wordpress.com blog?
-
Yes, the “Akismet has protected your site from nnn spam comments” number in your dashboard counts all the comments that Akismet has caught.
