HOw can I turn off Akismet

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Akismet has blocked 24 spam comments. And I’m not so sure they were spam comments. Because I only saw one comment marked spam in my que and it wasn’t spam at all. It was a valid comment. Is Akismet stealing my valid comments to. I can’t even find them anywhere to see. Any help with this?

You cannot disable Akismet and it is very accurate. The worst of all spam contains viruses and other malware that can bring many blogs down if sent to us bloggers and one of us is silly enough to click to open it. So it is NOT sent to us.

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read “5 things every blogger should know about spam” on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

To locate your spam go to Dashboard . Comment and click the spam link
    or use this link http://tucker4cc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?comment_status=spam

P.SD. May also add that the last time I investigated a blog whereon the blogger complained about Akismet and false positive spam I found they have approved 58 comments and every one of them was spam.

Thanks for helping me understand this. Fortunately, the only comments I approved were from trusted sources I know. I think you answered my question.

Note the username link ie. the site it links to. That’s a very common spammer link.

Under Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussions >> I think you can have Akismet save the spam for you to look at – but my site currently receives about 300 spam comments a day (some sites are over 1,000 a day) – so the 50 to 125 that Akismet puts in the spam que for me to look at is plenty.

And as @TT has noted – most of the posters here that want to turn Akismet off because it “catches too many comments” have their blogs filled up with spam – one person had well over 1,000 spam comments approved they had to go back through and mark as spam – search engines hate spam filled blogs

Thanks again timethief. Gemma is a personal friend of mine and it’s her email. So I’m glad Askimet put hers in my folder even though I never got to see the others. I certainly appreciate your knowledge.

    Hi gain,
That’s not Gemma’s email address that’s linked to her name. It is linked to the gmail help page https://mail.google.com/intl/en/mail/help/about.html

Best wishes with your blog. :)

timethief, explain to me the part in the address that is the link. Is that the numbers at the end? Just trying to understand. It’s a Philippino web service. I suppose anyone can use it whether they are just residential or spammers.
