Akismet Spam folder not populting

I’m a bit concerned that the Akismet spam filter is not functioning correctly. The total of spam caught is continuing to increase, but the spam folder is empty. I have no way of checking if the spam it is capturing is legitimate or not, and in some cases I have been capturing pingbacks to sites stealing my content that have appeared here as well.
Spam that is left in that folder is meant to automatically delete after 30 days or so, not immediately.
I typically get about 20-30 spams per day, so to have 2 days without a single entry is obviously reflecting a problem (and as I said, the total that counts the accumulated spam blocked from Akismet is still going, so the filter itself is still active).

It’s an ongoing problem. There are several other threads where people have reported the same thing. Sometimes after a few days they do show up. Other than that, I’m afraid I have no solutions.
