Akismet Spam Page — Filter/Group By IP Address?

When going through my spam page, I see that I get maybe 150 spam comments at once from the same IP address (spread out over a couple of days, but in the same “batch”). I’ll sift through 4-5 pages, everything saying roughly the same thing from the same IP address, hoping that I don’t skip one or two “valid” comments (and it’s happened — rare, but it has).

Would it be possible to group the comments by IP address, or perhaps filter or sort them, or something along those lines? It’d make it a lot easier to feel confident I’m not skimming over a valid comment just because my eyes are glazing over from online casino comments. I’m sure Akismet sends their data through in some format where the IP address is extractable; I can’t imagine it’d be terribly difficult.

    Just a thought.

You can use the Akismet search function to get those IPs, then go over the rest one at a time.

Just tried that — searching for the IP from the obvious spammer (where at least the first page is all the same IP; didn’t go further) got me quite a list. Unfortunately, all I can do is mark them as not-spam. Am I missing something, or….? It’s late and it’s been kind of a rough day, so it wouldn’t surprise me that I am.

Can you not mass-delete them? I thought you could. Hmmmm, how about putting the IP in the banned box on your Options — > Discussion page near the bottom. Not 100% certain that the banning part reads the IPs, but worth a shot if all you’re getting from them is spam.

Nope, no mass delete on the search results page. Like I said though, I may have missed it.

I tried banning an address once; it may have blocked it for future spam, but it didn’t do anything for what I already had to sift through. Besides, I believe they change IP addresses fairly regularly and/or its multiple spammers. I just cleared out 188 spam messages, from two different IP’s. Most times, it’ll be a bit more mixed up than that though — probably four or five IP’s all told, minimum.

They still come in clumps, even if comparatively small ones, from the same IP address though, which is why I suggested being able to filter (even with a search — that’d be great) by IP for deletion.
