Akismet stopped the spam but nothing in the queue

Hello
I have this message on my dashboard, can someone please explain for me? I’d appreciate some help.
*Akismet has protected your site from 3 spam comments already, but there’s nothing in your spam queue at the moment.*
I have 2 questions:
1. If theres nothing in the spam queue how can I check to make sure it is spam?
2. When I checked to see what widgets I have on my blog I see I haven’t activated the Akismet widget. So I’m not sure if its on or not. Is there a way to tell if its on or should I just assume by the above message that it is on?
Im not experienced with this kind of thing, I just click things here and there on my dashboard and if it works and I like it then its great. Thanks for your advice, I’ve learned a lot from this forum.

You’re welcome. Sometimes the forum search isn’t very efficient. You can type the same search term in the Support page and get better results. http://support.wordpress.com/
Akismet is active on all WordPress.com blogs by default and you won’t ever see all the spam that Akismet catches. If an entity has been flagged as a spammer across the entire community, then those comments are whisked away without you having to deal with them and they show up in your count as having been caught.

Ahh I see, thats really good information to know, much appreciated. I dont really think Akismet has stopped comments in my case, its probably stopped some real spam lol
