  Hi there.

  I have no idea how to use this widget. The download instructions are beyond me. Once they ask me to upload the file I am admittedly lost.

  Please offer some assistance.

  Akismet is on every wordpress.COM blog automatically so you don’t have to upload anything. See the other thread you started for more instructions on dealing with your issue.
