Align text left command shrinks container in pull quote block
-
Ho hum hello – again.
As per title, I am trying to use a pull quote block.
The default is full width with centred text.
I prefer left positioned text
However, that command does indeed push text left, but it shrinks the container to approx a one third width. Is there something I am missing or is this by ‘design’ of my template?
The current view is default, full width, text centred.
Cheers

Hi there,
I’ve taken a look at the theme your site uses (Leven) and it does not seem to offer a pull quote option that I can see. Is this something that you noticed in the theme demo site here? If so please point it out so we can take a closer look at how it was constructed
Generally speaking, most of our themes do not have a “pull-quote” option by default, so this is not typically possible unless you upgrade to the WordPress.com Pro Plan, which will allow you to use custom CSS to create that look by overriding the default editor code.
However, if the demo site does show this option we can take a closer look at how you can do something similar on your site, thanks!

Hello again Jerrysarcastic, thanks for your reply.
But this time you’ve confused me.Yep, Levin is the theme .
But ahem, I’ve been using it, for over two years – I think – and have always used pull quotes in conjunction with quotes. Never had any issues.I can’t answer your other questions partially as I am unclear what you are asking, but here is a screen shot of my drop down block options ( I hope)
Cheers

Ahhh, darn, forgot I can’t edit comments here.
I checked the support pages and while it makes no ref to pull quote being a pro option, it did talk about regular v/s solid colour which I will explore later.
I also need to check back on my 200 other posts, but I am sure I have used and modified pull quotes before with no hassle. Although I am aware the typography option in the right column changed dramatically several months ago.

Update: 1/ the support link for pull quotes is outdated.
2/ Check around 60% of my posts, Based on law of averages etc, those that use pull quotes are not as I imagined, remembered or expectedEither my memory is flawed or the system has retrospectively changed every pull quote (AKA PQ) to conform to the new settings.
Using the settings in the block editor (ie, the tool directly above the content on the main editing page) the HIGHLIGHT drop down carrot is ineffective. It WILL offer options to change background and font colour – but this is not implemented.
In the same tool kit, the option to align has unexpected results, eg, align left / right still centres everything but shrinks font size, wide and full width work as expected.
The align text option does do that, but, as my original post, also moves the container – not an expected result!
Are you certain sure there has not been a mis step in the HTML, PHP or CSS of these particular two options?
However, in the right column, the options for PQ include COLOUR which does allow and enable settings for text / font and background.
I can also adjust font size, border size and radius. In an earlier version of PQ there was option to change the colour of the top and bottom HL above and below the PQ. This has disappeared.
End result is a rather drab grey.Hope this helps.

Hi there,
Thank you for the clarification. Both the issues with the alignment and font colors are in fact a bugs that we are aware of and they both have been reported:
https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/56781
https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/52519I am unable to tell you when these issues will be addressed by our developers, but I will relay this thread as another report and we’ll keep you updated when things are fixed.
Thank you!

Hello, thanks for confirmation.
Nice to know it wasn’t me – this time!
Having looked at it for a while now,I can live with the “NEW NORMAL” but the colours in the top and bottom HR are really missed!
Besides which searching back over 60% of old poss showed up some errors and areas that I could improve on. So, not a total waste~
Cheers
