Alignment issues

I’m having a problem with alignment on my homepage. I have a portrait image as a cover (aligned to the left) and then some text next to the image. The text shows to the right of the image (how I want it) in preview and editor but when actually visiting the site the text is below the image and there is a gap to the right – any idea how to fix this?

  • Hi @thomasdowding23, the issue seems to be that you’re using a cover image block as you would a regular image block. And it seems the cover image is supposed to take up the full width of a space, or at least not “float” like an image would, because it is an image with a text overlay.

So to make sure we’re understanding what you’re after, do you want the image to sit to the left of the text, with only “Welcome to My Portfolio” on it?

If so, could I recommend starting with columns first? The only issue is that the text will not wrap underneath the image. It’ll stay to the right of the cover image.

Another option is to use the image but don’t overlay it with text. Just let it be a regular image floating to the left; that should work.

I noted too, it looks like you *might* have used more than one editor on the block since they aren’t resolving correctly if I copy and paste your code into my own test site. So it might be slightly easier to just start again with the columns, then the cover image on the left, then paste your text on the right.

Let us know if you need more help with this.

That’s worked perfectly, thank you so much!
