All avatahs went backwards?

  For some reason, my avatah has reverted back to an old one. And my comment leavers have had theirs change back to either WordPress issued cartoon ones or their original ones.
  Why?
  l honestly don’t think l ‘fiddled’ with anything. l didn’t notice until someone left a comment that theirs had changed back. When l checked mine, it had too.
  Does everyone load up again or can l push a button somewhere and save the world?
